Students in our classroom will have access to these sensory materials to help them de-escalate and process their emotions when they are unable to remain in their regular classroom. All material that we are requesting will have a purpose and are not "toys," to be used during free time. These sensory tools will be used to help students with self-regulation, which includes a person's ability to adjust and control their energy levels, emotions, behaviors, and attention. These skills allow students to interact with others in a manner that is socially acceptable by peers and adults. The goal of our classroom is for students to access a safe and welcoming classroom that is full of tools for them to use going forward in both their academics and in their personal lives. Specifically, these tools can also help decrease anxiety and school avoidance concerns.
