Weekly Readers for Curious Learners
Funded Jun 27, 2016Our class has loved using our Scholastic News! They have been incredibly engaged as we have read about topics such as Dr. Seuss, Civil Rights Activists, and various different living and nonliving things. Students (and I) have also loved being able to watch videos from Scholastic that accompany each newspaper and extend their learning!
As a teacher it has been such a blessing to have such an array of nonfiction texts printed in color, that are on my students' level, and match much of what we are learning in English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Through Scholastic News I have been able to provide my students with cross-curricular resources, and helped them to dive into an inquiry approach to learning.”

Funded Oct 6, 2016To say that my students love their Bouncy Bands would be an understatement! When I first debuted the Bouncy Band on my own chair they were so jealous and wanted them for themselves! The next day when they came in to them on their chairs they were thrilled! While I love gathering them on the rug, and they love stretching out to read to themselves and play math games, it became obvious that they much preferred to be in their chairs and bounce their feet than sit on the floor. We then set expectations for what we call "Proactive Seating" where kids can choose where they want to sit during lessons. To my surprise all of my students chose to bring their chairs to the rug and sit there. When asked why they chose their chairs, many of them responded because they can get their energy out and stay focused on their learning!
Our Bouncy Bands have not only given my students the ability to bounce and focus, but to have the power to be in charge of their own learning! I am so excited to meet the needs of my learners, and be able to give them the power to make choices that help them be successful.”

Funded Jul 13, 2016Dear Donors,
Today was the day! The rug arrived! We were all overjoyed now that we have a place to cozy up together to enjoy a good story! Already we have used it to enjoy some of our favorite Mo Willem's books together as a class. Students have enjoyed buddying up to read with one another. I had to laugh as students immediately stretched out to read with one another. I am so glad to be able to provide them with a space to relax and read!
I look forward to continuing to use this rug to develop our class culture through morning meeting, social studies, and our afternoon brain breaks!”

Listening Center Supplies for Leaders!
Funded May 19, 2016Dear Donors,
We are loving our listening center supplies! Students are always overjoyed when I tell them that the listening center is part of our rotation for the day! They love being able to read exciting, funny, and relatable books, without having to worry about reading the words! It allows them to enjoy the stories, and focus on comprehension skills! I love having these resources to not only allow students to focus on comprehension skills, but also to have fluency modeled and to help them fall in love with reading! And what is more, many of these books not only reinforce reading skills for students, but the social skills that we are working on in class! We love our books and CDs!”

Make Technology More Effective!
Funded Sep 9, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for your support and generosity with this project! Already I have seen the difference that having this technology has made in my classroom. Students absolutely love the privacy that comes from having headphones to use while working on the computer. We have also enjoyed a more quiet classroom during centers time now that there aren't computer noises in the background. The headphones have helped to create a peaceful work environment for everyone to be able to focus on the task at hand.
We are also enjoying using our Kindles! We have used them to take pictures of one another working hard, and being leaders in the classroom! They have also been great tools for reading! Students have been able to read stories, and have stories read to them! They have enjoyed listening to interactive stories on the Kindles, and using them to complete their independent work! It is such a privilege to be able to use them to release students to independence!”

Funded Oct 23, 2015Thank you so much for your contribution. My students have absolutely loved using the Weekly Readers in our classroom! They have exposed my students to information about Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., food chains, missing Lego pieces and so much more!
Recently I told students that we would be reading a Weekly Reader about Lego's and all of their faces lit up! And as excited as they were about being able to read about Lego's, I was just as excited to have engaging material that enable me to teach them about main idea, ocean currents and map skills!
It really has been a blessing to have these materials that are engaging for my students and address our literacy, science and social studies standards!”

Document Camera for Future Leaders!
Funded Oct 5, 2015Thank you so much for your donations for a document camera for my students. We have used it daily for many purposes, including reading stories, following along on math worksheets, and sharing student work! When I asked students what their favorite part of having it was, they came up with so many amazing ideas!
More than anything I know that they love being able to see the stories that we are reading up on the big screen! I simply place the book under the document camera and it projects it up on the board! With this all of my students can see the pictures as if they were sitting right in front of the book. Never do I have to stop and respond to a student saying "I can't see the pictures!"
Beyond that, I know my students have greatly benefited from being able to see all worksheets projected on the board! It makes it so easy to follow along, and they can see exactly what I expect! They love to be able to come to the front, and write the answer on the worksheet and see their work on the board! It is great for encouraging student engagement!”
