My students are all struggling readers. They spend more time getting "comfy" and settled than they do actually reading. Some students can't sit for long periods of time so they ask to leave the room and go to the bathroom or drink water. They don't really need to go, but they can't focus on their reading so they make excuses to get up. A standing work station would help those students who can't sit. A wobble chair and wobble cushions are ideal for students who can sit but need some movement as they read. Sitting still is a challenge for many students, especially for long periods of time. Camp chairs and balance balls are just one more option for them to choose and get comfortable. Students feel most at ease when they are given choices on how or where to sit. Having options other than their desk will ensure they don't spend class time fidgeting and finding a comfortable position and they can launch themselves right into their book.
