Funded Jun 22, 2022Thank you soooo very much for supporting my classroom project! First semester art students, mostly 9th graders, had the opportunity to choose a person they would use for their portrait. They could choose anyone as long as it was a human being and also they needed a clear b/w picture from which to work.
The main focus for the project was to learn about proportions and value, which is shading. Students used the erasers for creating the lighter values and the charcoal to add in the darker values and details.
The process for this project is super fun and physical. Kids are standing, moving, dumping their charcoal dust outside, measuring, and of course creating. It is quite literally one of the more wide-reaching, successful art projects. The light in their eyes tends to brighten and kids find great success with this.
Charcoal is quite messy so it is fun for the kids but can be extremely stressful as a teacher if you don't lay down clear parameters and instruction. Check out the photos...you will be amazed!!! Thanks again....truly!”
With gratitude,
