Just a food for thought... would you learn better by sitting in a traditional desk, or by having various places to sit that are more comfortable? I teach 6th grade language arts. Currently, my classroom has a very large space, but it is poorly used due to the type of desks in my classroom. They are all right-handed desks with the chairs connected. Therefore, it is very difficult to put students into groups due to this type of seating, because then students cannot get into or out of their seats. This NEW project could help my students tremendously by being able to gather with one another to talk about the books that we are reading, creating meaningful conversations for learning. This could really change the way that my students interact with their love for reading and learning. Students would be able to work and sit in groups. Also, they would have the sense of independent spaces in which they feel comfortable learning. This would also benefit several of my students with various learning disabilities as it creates a more inviting and user-friendly classroom. This is just a little food for thought. We really need this flex seating to help us grow as readers. Thank you in advance!
