Funded Sep 24, 2018The last couple of months have turned my classroom into a nursery. In the midst of our interdisciplinary project on food and culture, my students enthusiastically began planting herbs like cilantro, basil, parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. The first few days were rough - I could see how almost all of my students longed to see their seeds bursting forth with growth, only to be disappointed by another day of brown soil staring back at them. After a few short days though, and almost every day since, their arrival in my classroom has been filled with joyous calls like "It's growing!", boasts about "My plant is growing better than yours," or sometimes mournful cries that "my plant is dying!" What it all comes down to is the experience of growing plants has ignited passion and curiosity in my young scientists. Their next challenge when we return to school next week is for them to begin asking questions they can then test. The seeds, soil, and compost you donated will be used as they plan their own experiments to be able to boast that they grew the best basil of all.
Thank you for making excitement happen in my classes, and for fueling the imaginations of a new generation of scientists!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Wolf
