Computer Cables
Funded Dec 20, 2023Thank you for your kind donations! The cables will be put to use as soon as they are unboxed. As students run out of power, they'll be able to pick a cable from a designated area and continue to work without disrupting the class' creative process.
We appreciate your assistance! Happy Holidays!”

3-Light LED Kits
Funded Feb 8, 2019The Neewer LED lights have been a life saver in the classroom. We began the year using the LED lights to learn the basics mechanics of 3-point lighting. As the lights are small and portable, they have been extremely easy for the students to use, especially since many of the safety protocols did not need to be used with these types of light fixtures.
These lights have also been very popular with productions taking place outside of school. Due to the fact that the lights work with battery power, their practicality made them the go to for student productions. Night scenes would not be possible to shoot without them.
Students that felt intimidated to learn and handle lighting equipment, were quickly able to abandon their fear and dive straight into gaffing. All around great and easy to use tool. Thank you so much for your generous donations that have truly made an impact.”

Funded Oct 29, 2018We received the new HD projector that will be used to screen mentor films as well as student films during critiques and feedback lessons. This projector will enable students to view their films in full resolution. Being able to view their own work in full quality would mean that the production value could be monitored that much more. Screening mentor films in their true resolution would help with audience engagement and provide a richer viewing experience.
Students take pride in their work and watching films in full resolution helps to ensure that the production value is held to a higher standard. It also sets a precedent for them to act accordingly when preparing films for FSSA Film Festival and for other festivals.”

Equipment Cases
Funded Sep 23, 2018We ordered professional, hard cover cases for our students to borrow film equipment when they're filming projects outside of school. These cases protect such fragile equipment such as camera lenses (which have sensors, and glass inside of them that can be easily damaged if mishandled). In addition, these cases allow for multiple pieces of equipment to be stored amongst soft, foam, but firm packaging within so that many pieces of equipment can be carried in one case, as opposed to how we used to give things out in large, soft duffel bags. Making things safer, and easier for our high school students, ensures that our equipment is safe, and our students have less to carry on public transportation (which in turn ensures our student's safety as well).
Students feel as though they're emulating professional filmmakers using our cases because they aren't just using second hand duffel bags. It also sets a precedent for them to act accordingly when in a professional environment, and behaving responsibly when it comes to borrowing/utilizing expensive items.
We have equipment monitors who help us pack orders, and give out equipment to students. They've warmed to our new cases because it makes packing easier since they're condensing orders to less bags. Additionally, they enjoy cutting the foam shapes out within the cases that allow us to fit different items, such as camera bodies, tascam audio recorders, and the like inside. Again, as educators we aim to model real world practices, so anything that gives them accountability empowers our students, and makes them feel a part of, rather than outside.”

Canon DSLR Cameras
Funded Jan 26, 2018Thank you for your generous support. The Canon D80 cameras are a great addition to our equipment. As a public school we often run into financial issues when it comes to funding our film program. Due to a small number of cameras, approximately 7 students have to share each camera. This produces significant wear and tear of equipment that must be replaced or repaired annually. The cameras that you donated help to reduce the need for repair and maintenance.
My students are really excited about the professional capabilities of 80D. Not only are the students now able to view their footage live through wifi connection, but also the quality of the footage is superb in many aspects. When exported at high quality, 80D footage is crisp and clear, which is a huge factor for our students, who strive to attain professional quality of their films.
In particular, senior students have been able to use the cameras for their thesis films. Being that this is their last year, seniors have been working especially hard to produce films that capture their vision and tell personal stories. With the new cameras, the quality of the footage contributed to the level of visual storytelling that the students strive to achieve.”

Funded Aug 14, 2017I would like to thank you for your generous contribution that enabled me to purchase a set of radios for the film students. Communication is of outmost importance on a film set. This is especially important in the cases of 4 or more film crews running at the same time. Student film production can be a very hectic time with many technical hurdles and so, it is imperative that students are able to stay in touch with everyone.
The walks that I purchased with your donation will enable me to stay in touch with my students without having to lose valuable production time; questions can be answered, problems can be solved, and safety can be maintained - thanks to you!”

Microphones to capture the voices of young filmmakers
Funded Mar 29, 2017The shot gun microphones that we received allow our film students to record strong sound on the set of their films. Also, they gain the experience of a professional tying their work to the real world. In addition, prior to receiving these microphones we had broken mics, an insufficient amount of mics, and overall, an inventory that wasn't conducive to working with 30 students.
Our students find it exciting to record sound as professionals do, and realize that sound is as important, if not more so, than the visuals they film. They feel like "real" filmmakers on set.
Lastly, there are student who, prior to our receiving these microphones, wouldn't have given sound recording a second thought. That being said, we have more than a handful of students who get excited now when we assign them the job of sound. These microphones have not only changed our program, but the attitudes of our students as well.”
