This project to bring technology directly into my classroom for full access is something that would mean a great deal to my students. We use technology in many different areas: virtual simulations, online videos, tutorials, project collaboration, classroom activities, and test review are some of the areas most often utilized in my classroom. The licenses for the Chromebooks will allow us to have a more reliable internet connection and keep connection all year round! It removes many limitations set up on the "Guest" WiFi.
In my classes we use technology as a tool for students to problem solve or enhance their daily lessons in some way.
I generally have around 27 kids per class, having 10 Chromebooks is a great assist, but doesn’t even cover half of my kids in a class. This however does allow them to use them in small groups of 2-3 students. This creates a lot of positive interdependence among students to be responsible for work or research within their project or activity. It’s no new news that budgets for education are not aplenty, that’s why donorschoose.org is here! I as a teacher am trying to rise above and beyond to grant my students consistent access to resources that will enable them to be more successful when they leave my classroom and enter into the real-world.
In my Physical Science class kids can use virtual demonstrations for this semester's physics concepts: speed, acceleration, velocity, laws of motion, law of gravity etc.
In Earth Science my students are researching pros and cons of alternative fuel choices. They are formulating arguments for and against each source (i.e. solar, wind, hydro, biomass, nuclear).
