  • Social & Emotional Learning Spaces

    Funded Nov 29, 2021

The resources that you helped to purchase for our counseling department of been useful in so many ways. Our students have utilized the markers and the rainbow scratch paper as a medium to express their emotions. These items have also served as an ice breaker for students who come to the counseling office, but may not feel totally comfortable with opening up yet. The items purchased for the bulletin board have been shared with staff throughout the building, helping us to unify an important message about choices, goals, and achievement.

When our students were told that these items were donated to us by you, their faces light up and their belief in good deeds and kindness is reinforced.

The items you purchased will not only be used in counseling sessions throughout the remainder of this school year, but they will also help us to build bridges and open doors for communication with our students next year as well.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buttacavoli

  • Motivate in Order to Educate!

    Funded Jan 28, 2022

Words cannot express the appreciation I feel for your generosity. I know our students will feel the same when the items arrive.

Your act of kindness will help our kids' basic needs be met, freeing them up to focus on moving onward & upward.

I cannot wait to share the news with the rest of the school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buttacavoli

  • Safe Spaces Create Successful Students!

    Funded Jan 29, 2019

Your donation has helped all of the school counselors and teachers to create a safe space for the students in our school. The bottled water that your grant provided has been used to calm students down in high stress situations (i.e. situations of conflict and on standardized testing days).

Cases were given to each counselor and student based support provider in our school, so that each office can be well equipped.

Considering the majority of our water fountains are contaminated with lead, a simple staple like bottled water has helped to change the culture of our school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Buttacavoli

I am 1 of 4 school counselors in our school, where many of our students are dealing with various crises in their home lives. My office, and the office of my fellow school counselors, is a safe space for students to come and gain support for dealing with these daily challenges. Without this additional support from myself, my fellow school counselors and the teachers, many of our students would not make it successfully throughout the school day. For example, there are many points when students are sent to me in such an upset state, that it is not only a distraction for THEM, but it causes conflicts between them, their peers, and/or their teachers. Many times, our students' emotions are so escalated that it can put them in a full-blown panic. It is a well-known fact amongst mental health professionals that one way to ease a panic attack, is to have a drink of water. Yet, many of the drinking fountains in our school have been turned off due to lead contamination. Having access to bottled water in each counselor's office would yield an opportunity for us to ease our students back into a calm mental and emotional state, thus allowing them to be more successful throughout the school day. I know this may seem like a simple thing to most, but for our students, it is not. Many of our students come from low socio-economic homes and they do not come to school prepared with food & drink. Instead, they depend on the school to provide it for them. When I, as a counselor, greet an student in an escalated emotional state, and I cannot even offer them so much as a small drink of water to help them calm down, it leaves us both at a disadvantage.
