Not Another Worksheet! Creative Assessments for Language Arts
Funded Jul 25, 2017Thank you so much for funding out class project!
My students can't wait for the new quarter to start and for our mask project to begin. I've had to constantly remind them that we have to wait to get started. When I told them that this project was funded by your generosity, they reminded me daily to take their picture so that we could put some faces to your thank you.
We are looking forward to studying our new novel Among the Hidden and using this mask project to facilitate discussion and understanding about what it means to hide. What types of faces/personalities we show the world, and what it means to show yourself for who you are. I believe this project will help foster understanding, compassion, and tolerance for differences in my classroom.
I am also really excited to see how this project supports my struggling students and English language learners. Writing projects are hard for a lot of students to get into and to do. This project is both fun and a new way to show understanding. I am very hopeful that this project will act as a gateway to getting students to write and create.
Thank you for making all of this possible.”

Funded May 10, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for helping bring high interest books to our classroom. Your donations have made a huge difference. I didn't even have time to unpack all of the books before students were asking to borrow them. There has been a huge increase in students reading and discussing books this school year. Many of my reluctant readers have jumped into books, after seeing so many of their classmates getting excited about all of the book choices. One student has even borrowed and read 3 books of "The Ranger's Apprentice" this quarter. He told me "He had never really liked books before, but he really likes this story."
Our book projects, where students get to discuss what they read and present a project they created based on the book is coming due. Every student has been reading. Almost everyone has finished their books already. I credit having great books to read for this amazing achievement. I expect to see a lot of reading progress this year. Giving students books that get them hooked is the best way to help students in reading. You have done all of this, and I can't thank you enough!Thank you for being a true partner in education.”
