Ukuleles for Everyone!
Funded Sep 18, 2021Thank you so much for contributing to our class set of ukuleles. The fifth graders have been learning how to play and they are so excited to come to their lessons on Fridays! While most of them pick it up easily, some of them have really learned to be persistent and resilient when it comes to practicing weekly. The improvement and confidence growth I have seen is unbeatable!
When students first saw the extra ukuleles, they were very excited. Until they arrived, students had to share instruments and they were thrilled to know that each kid would have their own!
Due to Covid, we have not had the chance to perform in our school gym yet, but the students are looking forward to that opportunity. We have recorded some performances to share with the rest of the school and they love seeing themselves in the spotlight! Thank you for making this gift possible.”

Making Magic: Ukuleles in the Music Room
Funded May 28, 2020Thank you for the generous donation of ukuleles for the music classroom! Due to Covid-19 there was only one fifth grade class to use them, but when it is safe to do so, I'll use them with every fifth grade class.
This class learned how to hold, tune, strum and play chords in a matter of a few lessons! Ukuleles are an amazing instrument to help kids learn the skills they need to read music, play together, and use a stringed instrument. Many of these students had never played or held an instrument before, so this was an amazingly powerful experience for them. The light in their eyes was inspirational! I can't wait to share the ukuleles with more kids next year.”

Funded Aug 10, 2018Thank you so much for donating to our classroom rug! It has been a huge blessing for our class. The design helps keep kids in their own personal space during carpet times. The colors really brighten up the whole room! The soft materials are perfect for reading with a buddy or playing some math games! When the rug first arrived, students were excited! They couldn't wait to pick a dot to sit on instead of sitting on the tile. It really is such a useful gift!
Next in my classroom project plan is some sensory materials to help kids fidget and squirm while they work, along with some alternative seating so kids can choose which learning style fits them best! Stay tuned for more projects in the future. Your contributions are much appreciated and have already been put to great use!”

Lego Kits for Curious Kids
Funded Sep 24, 2017Your generous donation has allowed us to start a Lego Club at our school for 2nd and 3rd grade students. Lego Club kids use the WeDo2.0 kits to build and program robots. Students are using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills and teamwork to design machines that spin, drive, wobble or flash! Kids are engaged and excited about each week's design challenge.
Lego Club has opened a door of opportunities for students who otherwise have no after school programs to fit their needs. 2nd and 3rd graders are too young for our Lego League, so this gives them a chance to develop the skills they'll need to get into Lego League as fourth graders! It also allows me, as a teacher, an opportunity to prepare them for Lego League with intentional instruction in STEM concepts.
Thanks to your donation, Lego Club kids move beyond the building experience they get with Legos are home. They are using their favorite toys to become experts in the STEM field! I wish you could be in the room the first time a group of students figures out how to program a robot and make it move. The excitement is magical! There is a true pride that comes from hard work and there is a sense that these kids can do anything...thanks to you!”

Funded Feb 1, 2017The third graders are loving their new bike pedals and have used them extensively this school year! Students take turns having a day on the "bikes" and we record our rotations at the end of each day. So far, we have virtually biked across Kentucky and we are currently working to bike across China!
When the bike pedals arrived, my students were thrilled! Throughout the day, I have about 30 different students in my room and they were all excited to see the new addition to the classroom! Students are well aware that staying physically active is an important component to our academic success, and they love to read on the bike pedals throughout the day. When students are antsy or tired, I send them immediately to the bike pedals to get a little pick-me-up during the day. Students like to pedal while they solve problems or listen to read alouds. We have used the bike pedals all day, every day and we couldn't be more thankful!
In the future, I plan to incorporate more kinesthetic furniture and equipment so that students can work to their full potential. Thank you for your donations and stay tuned for more fun projects from my third grade classroom!”
