Dash to Deep Understanding of Coding
Funded Dec 21, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity. We are thrilled to add these dash robots and the dash wonder kit to our collection of resources to build a capacity and curiosity in coding. I can’t wait for them to arrive and to be able to share with you the ways in which my students are inspired by them!”

Connected Play Through Robotics
Funded Sep 7, 2017The supplies from our project "Connected Play Through Robotics" have already been inspirational to my students. Through the use of the Spheros provided in this project along with the Sphero EDU app used on our classroom ipads students have been exploring how to code. In our first experience using the Spheros students quickly learned that coding needs to be specific and coding drafts need to be tested and revised several times. This became particularly apparent when students coded their Spheros to spin for 500 seconds and then found themselves quite bored waiting when they realized how long 500 seconds really is. This was a great learning experience and it has spurred my students on to a better approach to coding with thoughtful authorship of the code and frequent pauses to check if the code is doing what they students' intended it to do. Students who are newer to the concept of coding and robotics have found the ozobots a great place to start. Since they are able to draw a path for their ozobots to follow rather than coding it on an app, the process of coding is becoming real and tangible to students.
Each opportunity we have had to take out our robots and explore how they work has proved to ignite passion. One particular example I can think of, is through a particular student who has become so fascinated with the mechanical pieces of robotics that he has been trying to build his own robot using supplies he can find through broken electronics. He's been looking at pictures of the internal pieces of Spheros online in order to try to understand the pieces and is currently searching high and low for someone with a broken Sphero he can tear apart.
Any time something new comes into a classroom there is an initial buzz. You know a great tool has entered the room when the buzz just does not die down. We have had our robots for about 2 months now and I still have students asking if they can stay in at recess and lunch to use the robots daily. We are just so grateful for your support in getting these tools into the hands of students and we can't wait to see where their learning continues to go!”

This classroom project was brought to life by 3M and 10 other donors. We're All Booked!
Funded Sep 11, 2017Thank you for providing my classroom with new books for our student library. Their love of reading has really been deepening through the quality literature purchased in this project. Each day, with the use of these books, students are increasing their reading skills, gaining experience with great mentor text, and being inspired to love reading and writing. There's nothing more wonderful as a teacher than to see students look up after their independent reading time is up as if they have just stepped back into the room from somewhere else - completely lost in the story they're reading.
Thank you again for helping me to foster a love for reading in my students. This love of reading will have a profound impact on their educational futures.”
