My Classroom Needs a Projector!
Funded Dec 4, 2023Thank you so much for the projector, screen, and document camera! It has made such a big difference in my classroom. We have had these materials for a little over a week and already, the engagement in my classes has shifted. Students are now able to come up to the board and lead their classmates and I can annotate work alongside the class to help them improve their reading, writing, and problem solving skills. I really cannot express how much these resources have shifted my classroom experience.
Thank you again for your support!”

Funded Oct 26, 2023Thank you so much for the lab supplies! They arrived just in the nick of time, allowing students to test the biomolecules in their school lunch to determine if the food they are given by the district provides them with adequate nutrition. This was a great opportunity for students to carry out a more complex procedure and to apply their in-class learning to a real-world dilemma.
We also were able to study the effects of pH and temperature on the enzyme, catalase. Students really enjoyed being able to visualize a chemical reaction and the chance to make the abstract more tangible. This same benefit came through when we completed the surface area to volume ratio lab. Students got to observe clear color changes in different sized cubes to understand how surface area to volume ratios of cells and internal organs are so impactful.
We all so appreciate the donation and cannot wait for the experiments we can do next!”

Funded Oct 24, 2019Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and my students! The pictures attached are from group learning tasks in two classes, but we have been using the supplies you provided for a variety of cognitively demanding tasks since December. Kids have really enjoyed diagramming their thoughts on the whiteboards and it has enabled me to better understand their thinking, understanding and collaborative abilities.
Yesterday in biology, students worked in groups to answer a challenging question about the cardiovascular, digestive and respiratory systems. They were using academic language to describe key concepts to one another and they incorporated mature accountable talk as they explored important topics. In chemistry, students tried out different methods of calculating ion charges and developing ionic compound formulas. They pushed back on each other's ideas and defended their own methodology with complex reasoning.
All of this learning and group work would not have been as successful without the materials you donated! I am excited to continue facilitating these tasks with all the supplies I now have. I know the students are eager to push their scientific thinking and skills forward even further.
Thank you again for you generosity in supporting the development of scientific thought at Excel High School!”

Funded Aug 13, 2019Thank you so much for all your support of our classroom! Students applied their understanding of the value of plants in ecosystems by re-potting and raising their own plant babies. Students are raising their plants in classrooms all around school (as seen in the photos). Teachers and their students have shown a lot of interest in whether their resident plants thrive. I am receiving texts, emails and in-person updates on a daily basis!
Students are monitoring and visiting their plants at least 2 times a week and are tracking their growth. This has been an amazing start of this project. It has connected students with each other and with new staff members in the building. Your generosity helped bring a little joy and life into our school - thank you!
I cannot wait to continue to work on this project throughout the year and to improve it and add to its rigor in years to come. Thank you again for your support of my classroom and my amazing students.”

Funded Feb 9, 2019Thank you so much for your support of this project! Students were really excited to engage in a lab that was advanced, difficult, and relevant! Your support of my classroom enabled students to better grasp the public health crisis surrounding the rise of resistant bacteria. We were able to collect really interesting result while also explore the struggles of performing complicated labs. My classes managed to work together really well to complete this lab. We so appreciate your support of our classroom! I personally learned so much about how to best facilitate this unit's learning and I cannot wait to implement this lab again next year!”

Let's Get a Snake!
Funded Jan 29, 2019Several of my students and I went to pick up our snake yesterday and it was an amazing experience. My students are already so excited to have a class pet and are eager to watch our new friend feed and grow. We have not yet named our new class pet, but she/he is already a huge fixture. I have had so many students ask me to come look at our snake and they are so engaged by her/his movement and coloring.
We cannot wait to watch our snake grow. Her/his will be feeding next week once the stress of the move dies down and I already have a list of students that want to be the first to provide our pet with her/his first meal. Thank you again for transforming my classroom and providing my students with a wonderful learning opportunity!”

Bring The Outdoors Into Excel High School
Funded Sep 6, 2018Thank you all so much for contributing to this project! So far students have learned about photosynthesis, cellular respiration, energy flow, and nutrient cycles in their quest to understand how plants survive. Students planted their seeds and many of them grew into seedlings that were replanted and delivered to teachers around the building. Students have been so engaged with this project - they have taken ownership of their plants and have been meticulously watering them to keep them alive. Teachers with plants in their room have been so excited to be closer to nature. This project has been a great springboard for our learning for the rest of the year. I, and my students, really appreciate the help in bringing engaging resources to our school!”
