Becoming the Next Leaders of the United States
Funded Aug 2, 2018Thank you very much for supporting our class! We are in the middle of our second unit and the content you helped donate to has had a tremendous impact. For example, students are turning in their "How a Bill Becomes a Law" project today, which required students to use the content you donated for to tell the story of a bill becoming a law.
Students have enjoyed the content this year, as it is much more engaging and relevant to the lives of our students than previous content. This updated curriculum is aligned with the redesigned AP Government and Politics course, which helps ensure students are being taught the content necessary to succeed on the exam.
As we move forward with the year, our students are excited to tackle the new material. However, first students need to take their exam on Congress next week! Thank you!”

Mr. Van Houten
Explode To The Finish!
Funded Apr 8, 2017Thank you for donating to the "Explode To The Finish" project which gave starting blocks and resistance training equipment to our track team. These resources helped our students learn the proper technique of using starting blocks. Having the proper technique allowed our students to claim victories week after week. Additionally, the resistance bands helped our students improve their speed in both sprint and throwing events.
When our students received the equipment they were excited! They were excited not only because they had all of this great equipment, but also because they knew they had fans and people that wanted to help them succeed. It was a great moment to see that. Further, when we had our track meets, the students enjoyed being able to capitalize on the hard work they put in from using the donated equipment.
As our track team finished up their first year, they are excited to the next season. As all of the students will be back and they will have the confidence of having competed in the prior year, we are excited for what the season will hold. Thanks to you, this equipment will be used year after year!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Van Houten

Funded Oct 7, 2016Thanks to your donation, our students are learning all about track and field and getting ready to become the next wave of Olympians! With these resources, our students have been able to learn hurdle drills, learn the ins and outs of running form with the parachutes, developing quick feet with ladder drills, and learning various types of throwing. With such a wide array of materials from this project, our students have been exposed to a multitude of new and unique sports.
When the students received the materials, many of them wondered what they were. Once it was explained, the students were excited to get going and explore all the new sporting equipment. Further, our students are quite excited for our first track and field meets later this year!
Later on, this equipment will allow our students to become well versed in all the different events in track and field. This will allow our students to find the event that they like best and become captivated by it. In the end, we will be prepared to be successful for our first meet!”

Go for the Gold! Fund Our First Ever Basketball Teams
Funded Sep 2, 2016Since the project supplies have arrived, my students have been able to take basketball to the next level! By having more basketballs, I have been able to get more students participating in drills and competitions. The basketball pads have created a basketball court that is safe for the students to play on. Further, the practice pinnies and scoreboard and allowed our teams to be able to scrimmage and remember both the score and which of their friends are on their team!
When the supplies arrived, my students were incredibly excited with the opportunity to have new equipment. Also, it made our teams feel like they would be prepared for our first game.
Going forward, our basketball teams are preparing for our first season. Drills are in full swing and plays are being executed. We are getting ready to set the tone in our first game and prove to our school and community that we are a sound and fundamental team. Thank you.”

Funded Oct 9, 2015Thank you for your donation to my students. Watching my students learn about, play, and become fairly good at field hockey was unforgettable. Not a single student (including me) had ever played, and many had never heard of, field hockey. Thanks to your donation, my students were exposed to a new team sport and some students even found a new favorite sport.
When we head back to school in 2016, we will be starting handball. Another team sport my students have never heard of before. Just finding a place that sold handballs was difficult! As with learning any new sport, it will be difficult at first, but I know in the end the values of teamwork, perseverance, and problem-solving will play out tremendously.
Once again, thank you for your gift to my class. All the best in 2016!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Van Houten
