Making history interesting for kids can be difficult. I want to incorporate art into almost every one of my lessons so they can visualize what we are learning. Therefore, my goal is to use that art as motivation for kids to create their own pieces masterpieces that relate to early U.S. history. For example, I would then love for students to select someone we studied about in class, do some research about them and their life, and use the materials I am requesting (like the art paper, colored pencils, art markers, charcoal, or graphite pencils) to create a drawing, sketch, or painting that represents the life of that famous American. Students can also recreate famous historic events as a cartoon or create political cartoons about a time period in history. The possibilities are endless! I would then have a vote of the best drawings and those would be selected for display using the black mats and the mounting board in our school's annual Exhibit Night. These art supplies are necessary for us to complete this project. Your donation of these materials would be a great addition to my classroom and help me integrate the arts into my social sciences curriculum.
