  • The Geometry of Density: Exploring Recycling Through Math

    Funded May 14, 2025

Thanks to your generous support, The Geometry of Density: Exploring Recycling Through Math brought math to life in a meaningful, real-world context. With materials like graph paper, dry erase markers, and classroom snacks, students worked together to measure, calculate, and analyze the density of common recyclable items such as chip bags, plastic bottles, and aluminum cans. By computing mass and volume and converting units, they gained a stronger grasp of proportional reasoning and the concept of density—all while seeing how math applies to everyday decisions about waste and sustainability. The hands-on nature of the project made abstract concepts more concrete and gave students a deeper appreciation for how math can solve real-world problems.

This project not only reinforced essential geometry and measurement skills but also sparked important conversations about environmental responsibility. With the help of a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, I was able to access engaging math posters that helped visualize complex concepts and supported student understanding throughout the activity. Students were excited to discover how their classroom's weekly recycling habits could impact landfill volume, and they left the project with both stronger math skills and a new awareness of their role in protecting the environment. Thank you for making this meaningful learning experience possible!”

  • The Comfort Project: Spreading Love to Bereaved Families

    Funded May 6, 2025

Thanks to your generous support, The Comfort Project: Spreading Love to Bereaved Families became a deeply moving and meaningful experience for both our students and the families we reached. In recognition of Bereaved Mother's Day, my students took on the important mission of bringing comfort and compassion to families experiencing unimaginable loss. With the materials provided, they thoughtfully assembled care packages filled with items meant to soothe, support, and honor the memory of lost children—each one carefully packed with empathy and love. From grief journals and memorial butterfly ornaments to warm socks and calming teas, every item helped deliver the message that these families are seen, remembered, and not alone.

Beyond the impact on grieving families, this project made a powerful difference in the lives of my students. They learned how service, compassion, and small gestures can create a ripple of healing in their own community. Inspired by the Service Stars mission and student leaders like A, they gained a deeper understanding of empathy, emotional intelligence, and the importance of human connection. Your support made it possible for my students to grow not only academically, but emotionally and socially—learning that they have the power to make a real, lasting impact. Thank you for helping us spread love and light when it is needed most.”

  • Geometry in Style: Designing Wearable Math

    Funded Mar 26, 2025

Thanks to your generous support of Geometry in Style: Designing Wearable Math, our Geometry students had the incredible opportunity to turn abstract math concepts into creative, wearable art. Using the materials you helped fund—sublimation ink, protection paper, and heat tape—students explored symmetry, reflections, rotations, and translations by designing custom T-shirts and Valentine's Day wear. This hands-on project allowed them to see the beauty of math in everyday life and gave them a new sense of ownership over their learning.

This project was especially impactful for our English Language Learners, who were able to connect mathematical vocabulary and principles to real-world applications in a fun and memorable way. Watching their ideas come to life on fabric helped boost their confidence, creativity, and engagement in the subject. Thank you for helping us merge math with art and self-expression—your support made math meaningful, exciting, and stylish!”

  • Colorful Celebrations: Printing PBIS Rewards

    Funded Feb 26, 2025

Thanks to your generous support of our project Colorful Celebrations: Printing PBIS Rewards, we were able to bring a vibrant and meaningful touch to our school's PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program. The color printer you helped fund has made a noticeable difference in how we recognize and celebrate student success. With brightly colored certificates and positive notes, students are not only acknowledged for their good behavior and accomplishments but are also truly excited to receive something special that they can take home and be proud of.

These colorful rewards have transformed the way we promote positivity and growth in our school. Students beam with pride when their names are called and their colorful certificates are displayed. The visual impact of full-color recognition makes their achievements feel even more significant. Your support has helped us build a culture of encouragement, celebration, and motivation—making a lasting impact on both individual students and the overall school community. Thank you for helping us create joyful moments that matter.”

    With gratitude,

  • Stamped for Success: Sending Positive Notes Home

    Funded Feb 25, 2025

Thanks to your generous support of our project Stamped for Success: Sending Positive Notes Home, I've been able to strengthen the connection between school and home in a truly meaningful way. The simple act of sending a positive note has brought smiles, pride, and encouragement to students and their families. These notes have become powerful tools to celebrate student progress, particularly in math, and have inspired students to strive even harder. Your donations have not only helped me purchase materials for these notes but have also helped build a culture of positivity and motivation in our classroom.

One especially touching moment came from a student who recently arrived in the United States from a country where she was not allowed to attend school. She had been working hard to catch up and was incredibly eager for her parents to know she was improving in math. When she received her special note to take home, her face lit up with joy—she felt seen, valued, and proud to share her accomplishments with her family. Thanks to your support, students like her feel encouraged to keep learning and growing. Your generosity has made a real and lasting difference.”

  • Ferris Wheel Building Blocks for Geometry Instruction

    Funded Feb 6, 2025

My geometry classes went full "STEM" ahead with this exciting hands-on project that brought math to life through the study of Ferris Wheels. Using the concept of circular motion, students explored real-world geometry topics such as arc length, central angles, and sector area. It was a joy to see their creativity and enthusiasm as they modeled Ferris Wheels, made calculations, and collaborated to solve real problems using mathematical reasoning.

The highlight of the project was our unforgettable visit to the Capitol Wheel at National Harbor. Standing along the Potomac River, students applied what they had learned by calculating the arc length and sector area of the Ferris Wheel in real time. This immersive experience transformed abstract math into something meaningful, memorable, and relevant. Thanks to your support, my students gained a deeper understanding of geometry—and a powerful reminder that learning can be both rigorous and fun.”

  • Celebrating Lunar New Year Through Geometry and Global Connections

    Funded Dec 23, 2024

The "Celebrating Lunar New Year Through Geometry and Global Connections" project has had a transformative impact on my students, offering them a unique opportunity to explore both geometry concepts and cultural awareness. By incorporating the celebration of Lunar New Year into our geometry lessons, students were able to learn about the significance of shapes, symmetry, and patterns through activities like creating traditional lanterns, understanding the geometry of zodiac animals, and exploring designs in Lunar New Year decorations.

This project not only deepened their understanding of geometric concepts but also helped students build connections to global cultures. For many, it was an eye-opening experience to see math applied in a cultural context, making learning more meaningful and engaging. The initiative has fostered a sense of respect and appreciation for diverse traditions, enriching the classroom environment while enhancing students' mathematical skills. It also encouraged teamwork, as students collaborated on creating projects, reinforcing the importance of working together to achieve common goals.”

  • Pencil Munchers

    Funded Dec 19, 2024

As times evolve, many students arrive to class with little more than their cellphones and earbuds, leaving essential school supplies—like pencils—behind. This creates a significant challenge, as teaching math becomes nearly impossible when students don't have the basic tools to write with. Pencils seem to vanish quickly, adding another layer of difficulty in maintaining an organized and productive learning environment.

Thanks to this grant, I now have a steady supply of pencils in my classroom, ensuring that every student is equipped to engage in lessons and complete assignments. Having these basic supplies readily available has helped minimize distractions, enabling students to focus on learning and succeed in their math studies. The impact of this project goes beyond just providing pencils—it has created a smoother, more organized classroom atmosphere, allowing students to participate fully in their education.”
