Thank you for your generous donation of art supplies for our end of the unit culminating task! The unit was about friendships versus the dream. Which is more important to you and why? The idea behind the unit was to get the students critically thinking about their lives and the decisions they make. Being 13 years old, with the peer pressures and homework piling up, understanding balancing priorities at this level are new to most students. I was hoping that this unit got them to understand for their own lives what their priorities are as well as fully comprehending what each word meant to their lives.

Their ultimate expression of understanding was to create a dream or friendship book. This book contains collages, paragraphs explaining the importance of their choice, thinking maps to define their choice, poems, and song lyrics. The students very much enjoyed creating their books and I hope that they will be able to look back on them with fond memories as 7th graders. ”
