  • Writer's Workshop Supplies

    Funded May 5, 2014

Thank you for all of the classroom supplies. They have really helped get us through this year and we have enough to start off next year. We got chart paper, pencils, colorful pens, scissors, tape, staplers, and glue sticks. These are all supplies that the kids go though quickly. During Writer's Workshop I like having a station set up where the kids can help themselves to the supplies. That way they don't have to interrupt me and it makes them responsible for themselves. The chart paper is so nice to have to that I can create charts that are big enough for all of the kids to see no matter where they are in the class. Thank you so much! These supplies have been a life-saver!”

  • Brain Pop For 2nd Graders

    Funded Nov 12, 2013

Thank you so much for your amazing donation. My class and I love BrainPop Jr. I use the movies to teach different academic concepts like writing, math and science. Yesterday we watched the letter writing video. After we watched the video the whole class took the quiz to check for understanding. I am able to pull up the app on our class iPads. My students are able to access any video they choose, watch it and take the quiz. Each video is 4-7 minutes so it's perfect for the few minutes before lunch or before school lets out. There is never any wasted time. Thank you again!”

  • An iPad Mini for Mini Scientists

    Funded Oct 22, 2013

Thank you so much for your donation. The mini ipad has been so helpful in the classroom. I am able to show videos and pictures for science and math. I am also able to pull up information for our non-fiction All About books. We are doing a class book on bears. We have been able to search for information on what they eat, what they look like, where they live and how they catch salmon. We also watched a video on how bears catch salmon. My students think it is amazing how fast we can find the information we are looking for. They have all had a chance to play with some of the learning apps I have been able to put on it. The ipad has really added a wonderful technology component to my lessons.”

  • Books And A Bookshelf For Little Scientists

    Funded May 15, 2013

Thank you so much for your donation. The students in my class really love the books and the bookshelf. This month we are displaying all of the Halloween and Harvest books. It is easy for them to pick out what book interests them because they are now displayed so nicely.

They also love reading the books. We go the book packs "Matter" and "Health and Nutrition." There is a good mix of fiction and non-fiction, and hard and easy. There is a book for all interests and levels. The kids love it when I read aloud a book and then I give them a chance to read the book! The are motivated to learn when the literature is fun. My students and I thank you again!”

  • Learning About Our World Through Literature

    Funded Jul 26, 2013

Thank you so much for your amazing donation. My students absolutely love the books. They are already learning so much from them as well as practicing their reading. We received 5 different sets of books for a total of 42 new beautiful books. The sets were Community Helpers, Continents of the World, American Symbols, Landforms and Mapping and Biographies. They love the American Symbols pack because they enjoy reading about the White House and Capitol Building. They are also enjoying learning about different people in our history like Hellen Keller and Jackie Robinson. These books have been an amazing addition to my non-fiction collection. As you can see from the pictures the boys in my class are very excited to read the "new" books. Thank you again!”

  • Non-Fiction Books: Why Not Learn While Learning to Read

    Funded May 5, 2013

Thank you so much for your very generous donation. We were given 4 different sets of non-fiction reading material. We got All Kinds of Animals Vocabulary readers, Building Fluency Cards, Non Fiction Comprehension Folders and Highlight Skills Reading Cards. Each of these we have used in guided reading, partners and by them selves. My students love reading non fiction and I love that they are learning while I am teaching them how to read. I can still teach Phonics concepts as well as focus on non fiction text features. Thank you again for your donation.”

  • Gail Gibbons For The Listening Center

    Funded May 5, 2013

Thank you so much for your very generous donation. My students have been listening to the Gail Gibbons books in our listening center and they love them. The books are all about 20 minutes long, so it gives me time to work with a small group while 8 students are busy, quietly learning. The titles of the books are Monarch Butterfly, Frogs, Penguins, Elephants of Africa and Horses. It's great that they are so engaged while learning something. In fact, one of my students found a caterpillar outside the other day and he said that we should get a jar to put it in, just like the book said. That is proof that they are learning while at the listening center.”

  • An HP Laptop For Little Scientists

    Funded Mar 10, 2013

Thank you so much for your very generous donation. My students and I were thrilled when the laptop was delivered to our classroom. The kids love that I can show science videos, images and PowerPoint with the new computer. I am also able to show the daily math videos that came with our math curriculum.

I have also found a few websites where the kids can play games, read books and take short quizzes. They enjoy doing this independently or with a partner. It is essential to have a working computer in my classroom. I am so grateful for your donation.”

  • Nonfiction Sight Word Readers for My Little Learners

    Funded May 6, 2013

Thank you so much for the 6 sets of non-fiction sight word readers. My students love reading them. They read them in guided reading groups with me, in small groups with each other, with partners and by themselves. The text is very simple with picture clues for harder words. The books are very sturdy which is great for clumsy first grade fingers. They will last a long time. The topics vary from snowmen, leaves, the sun, the farm and the beach. There are 20 books in each set. My fellow first grade colleagues are excited to be able to borrow them. Thank you again for your donation.”

It is so easy for my students to see what books are available to read, as well as put them back in the correct spot. It very sturdy, which is necessary for 6 year olds.

We also have read and love the math counting books. They are so eager when it comes to read aloud time. They really enjoy learning through literature. Once I read the books, my students get to read the books by themselves or in partners. They were excited to read new books. Thank you again for your donation!”
