  • Begging for Books

    Funded Aug 22, 2022

Your donation has made a huge impact on our classroom. Many of the books we were gifted were nonfiction texts. Students naturally love nonfiction because they are so curious about their world. I have used these books to teach text structures, drawing conclusions and making inferences using text clues. Many of the other books gifted to us were graphic novels. These have been a big help in getting my reluctant readers to read. What they don't realize is that these types of books require lots of inferences and really make them think! It's a win-win!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Amsberg

  • A Clean & Comfy Place to Sit

    Funded Feb 7, 2019

We have had our couch and surf seats for a while now and the kids are loving them!

When we first got our boxes from Amazon the kids couldn't wait to get them open. My team teacher and I opened the box of surf seats and began using them right away. I put the couch together that night so it was set up the next day when the kids came in. You should have seen the HUGE smiles on their face. We take turns using them each day and they make sitting on the rug for carpet time so much more comfortable for the kids. Thank you so much for supporting our classroom. It means so much much to the kids to know that people care about them.”

  • Third Graders: Ready to Breakout and Conquer the World!

    Funded Oct 20, 2016

Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom project! We have enjoyed our BreakoutEDU box and love to get it out every chance we get.

In our first BreakoutEDU experience, my students were extremely frustrated. I found that they worked in small groups, but didn't share information between the groups. Also, when a student would suggest a different idea they were often ignored. As a result, they did not solve the clues to break into the box in the time allowed. Their hearts sank and they were not as enthused the next time we pulled out the BreakoutEDU kit. However, they were successful the next time and have been hooked ever since.

My students have thoroughly enjoyed our BreakoutEDU kit every time we have used it. They have come to enjoy challenging problems, and do not get as frustrated when their problems are not easily solved.

Our next step is to solve more complex problems within a shorter time span. The students also really want to invite another classroom to participate in a BreakoutEDU experience. Their excitement is infectious!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Amsberg

I am asking for a variety of locks, a tool box with a tray, stain detector and other the materials to create a BreakoutEDU kit. My students need the BreakoutEDU kit to help me nurture and develop their creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking so they can become fluent in vital 21st century skills. I want my students to succeed in life and a BreakoutEDU kit is a uncommon way to help them become productive citizens, and not only in our classroom community. BreakoutEDU is very similar to the breakout rooms that are becoming more popular around the world. However, instead of being locked in a room and using clues to get out, the kids are working together as class or in teams to solve a mystery and break into a box or boxes that are locked with a variety of locks. The breakout mysteries must be solved within forty-five minutes which helps teach the students how to work effectively under the pressure of a time limit. The mysteries can also be tied to a variety of subject areas and the items in the kit contain everything needed to play over 250 games in our classroom! Not only does BreakoutEDU help teach 21st century life skills, but it ties to our daily curriculum and can be used over and over again. This BreakoutEDU kit will push my students out of their comfort zone and require them to work together, communicate effectively, and be creative problem solvers. My goal as their teacher is to develop students that are not only ready for the next grade, but are ready for life. This kit would help me to do so.
