When a student walks into the counseling office, I want them to be in a comfortable and inviting space. Supporting student's mental health is so important, now probably more than ever. Having a student come into a space that is thoughtful and sensitive to their needs helps them to feel comfortable and as though they truly matter. Having an office of leftover and mismatched furniture does not give the impression of importance to the student. It is my goal to have an office that is inviting, caring, and tells the students they matter. I am hopeful that by getting some of these products and revamping my office I can show these students how much they mean to me and how important their mental health is to me and the entire school. I am asking for some lamps to help with a more calming environment, those overhead florescents do not lend well to students with sensory issues. I've got a large whiteboard I want to hang where I can brainstorm with kids and create schedules for students who need that structure. Last, I have a rug to put under my table and chairs (which I plan to paint!) to give the room a more homey feel. I think the addition of these items to my counseling office would be highly beneficial to my students.
