Portraits in Bold Color
Funded Sep 16, 2017My students are actively and passionately using the supplies we purchased with your generous donations! We are using the inks and brushes to create bold and colorful portraits on paper and canvas boards, and we are using some of the larger brushes to create large scale murals on the walls of the school.
When the supplies arrived, my students were excited like someone at Christmas time, as we all helped open up the packages and put away the supplies for later use. I explained to the students where the supplies came from, and what type of organization Donors Choose is and how it works. Then I began to document the students actively working on the images individually or in teams on the walls.
My mural painting students have quite a bit more working to do revising and adding to their large scale paintings, while the Portrait project students are almost done with their long term projects, adding more new colors in ink where it is needed.”

Everyday People
Funded Mar 15, 2017Providing enriching opportunities for my students is my primary goal in the visual arts classroom setting. The students have been using the art supplies provided by your donations to create portraits in ink on paper, individual paintings on canvas, and painted murals on the walls around campus. The current murals tell the story of the civil rights movement by illustrating some of the key figures and moments in history.
When the students helped me unpack the new supplies we received they were overjoyed to know that they will get access to proper materials and tools to create high quality work. My students have not always had the same opportunities available as in a wealthy community, so it is even more important that I utilize Donors Choose and other avenues of access to classroom supplies and resources to better provide my students with what they need to excel.
In the near future, my students will begin to explore another individual painting project combining silhouettes and painted skies to create their own masterpieces on canvas. They love to explore their creative side and have a wide variety of quality materials and tools to make this happen.”

Landscape Painting
Funded Nov 25, 2016Once the paints, brushes, and others supplies arrived to the classroom, we began putting them to use creating a variety of landscape paintings. The nature of the paint for the classroom is that it is consumed no matter how you ration and conserve, it runs out in time. Students select the landscape they are going to try and recreate, many selecting scenes that hold meaning to them, such as a beach they once visited back in their homeland.
When the supplies arrived in the classroom, we began to outfit the current brush supply with some brand new fine detail and edging brushes for careful work on the canvas. Without these fine quality brushes, the artwork would be limited.
Now we will be able to create more detailed ruined work when needed. Now no student will be limited by the lack of fine painting supplies!”

Studio Painting: Still Life to Surrealism
Funded Aug 22, 2016This year more than ever, your donation has enabled my classroom to function with adequate supplies for all of the students I serve. We have put all of the painting supplies to good use in several projects already. The first was a basic shapes project, painting with accurate mixing and blending. And after that skills building project,we are onto the Sugar Skulls project featured in the photos I posted. We studied the Dia de los Muertos and the customary artwork that accompanies the festival and designed our own.
Once the students saw that we received many many boxes of paint and canvases, they were ecstatic and overjoyed with the possibilities. The supplies are consumable and costly, so the opportunity to paint on a canvas board with quality paint and brushes is not an opportunity these students get often. They are very grateful and try not to waste even an extra drop of paint.
Next, we plan to try some landscape painting, and surely a lighted still life project. I plan to continue to train the students in the fundamentals from color mixing to brush control, and basic design and painting skills needed to achieve success. We are hungry to continue to make more artwork, express ourselves with paint, and connect our learning to the creation of new products.”

Mr. A.
Painting
Funded Apr 26, 2016With your generous donation, my classroom was able to purchase a variety of paints to help complete several murals within the school. These artworks are large in scale, are located in highly visible areas of the school, and challenge the student's perspective on themes like racial and gender equality, while in the other mural the imagery is intended to inspire and motivate students to continue their education and follow their dreams.
The supplies will continue to be used to complete individual student paintings next year. The students are eternally grateful for this opportunity to explore a new medium, used high quality supplies, and receive the needed help to complete their project!!
We thank you!!!”

Ink Portraits
Funded Jan 14, 2016Your charitable donation has allowed our classroom to purchase materials we would not normally have access to due to budgetary issues. The no portrait project is simply the most popular art project my classroom does all year long. The students have freedom of choice when selecting their subject, most select famous icons they respect, where as other create portraits of family and friends. Although the assignment is very difficult, the students love to make a piece of fine art that they will cherish for years to come!!
As always thank you for thinking of us!!!😀😀😀”

Scratchboard
Funded Dec 7, 2015Once again your donation to my classroom and our projects have reaped tremendous rewards. The students truly beg to create artwork with the scratch boards, and look forward to this project as the start date approaches. Due to the shiny metallic under painting on the scratch boards, the students love the process of carefully removing the black top coat, and rendering their imagery.
I am always taken by the the silence in the classroom during this project's run. The tremendous focus by the students only goes to show how much they love the scratch board assignment, and we all thank you for helping us purchase the materials!!”

Sculpture and Drawing
Funded Jun 17, 2015The students of my classroom were excited when I told them we received your donations and that I purchased sculpture materials with which to express themselves. They dug into the clay and wire right away, getting their hands dirty building snowmen, basketball courts, and animals all on the first day. Soon we will begin to add detail and decorative paint and surfaces.
We cannot thank you both enough for your generosity regarding the donations for the supplies and taking action to follow through to help the students here. Many many students will benefit from the joy you have both brought to the classroom through this organization.”

Monochromatic Ink Portraits
Funded Dec 22, 2014Again the students and I thank you all for donating to this project. The resources we purchased with the donated funds were a wide variety of inks of all kinds for the students to explore using and mixing while creating portraits of their subjects. When I opened the boxes of supplies and showed them in class the students made statements like, "I have never seen inks like these before", "Are we allowed to use them?", "Why didn't you buy these before?", "Can we do more than one?" and "When can we start?".
Currently, all of the students in three of the Introduction to Drawing classes are actively drawing out the pencil shapes on the large watercolor paper before the inking process begins. Some students have already finished the pencil, black ink shapes, and color, and are onto their second portrait!!
Due to the extra supplies I was able to purchase with the donations from the supporters through DonorsChoose, my students were free to explore and create with the many ink types and extra volume of ink and paper. Tremendous participation and engagement is evident in the classroom as the students express themselves, learn basic math, drawing, and color mixing skills while idolizing their favorite singer, actress, athlete, or family member.
Thanks again,”
With gratitude,
Mr. A.
