I would like to build a racially diverse classroom library that gives kids access to important missing narratives in the canon of “American Literature" and better represents their lived experiences and cultures. I have chosen titles that cover a variety of intersectional and BIPOC identities. My hope is to foster a love for reading and build an empathy of understanding as part of the classroom culture. The more narratives students are exposed to the better understanding they develop for people who may be different from them. This will help build empathy and understanding to help create advocates and agents of change in creating a more socially and racially just society and world.
