Students deserve to learn from the stories they read in class. They should "see" people in stories that represent the unique communities in which they live. Unfortunately, all too often, the stories we read in our English classes do not fulfill this requirement, and instead, those chosen are what school districts provide us and/or what teachers purchase digitally online. Therefore, students are often uninterested and quickly disengage. We are constantly reading, or skimming, on the computer, and we have quickly lost the "touch" of a physical book. The books in this project aim to give all students what they never may have experienced before: an interesting/engaging story that is culturally representative of the communities in which they live and study. The lessons used while teaching these books will serve students throughout their lifetime in knowing some of the stories of people across various backgrounds.
