  • Sturdy Stools for Small Group Learning

    Funded Nov 9, 2023

Thank you for your generosity in funding this project. It was not a small project and it is so appreciated how quickly you all made it happen! When the boxes arrived I had a team of eager students help breaking down cardboard and cheering about the new seating.

The stools you funded have been used even more than I thought! Many of my students love working at our large table, sitting at the stools, so they can get some extra help, particularly during writing and math. Because of these stools, I am able to help multiple students at once and provide a space that might be easier for some students to focus.

These stools are much higher quality than anything I've had in the classroom before. They are enduring the heavy wear-and-tear that classroom materials get. I'm really grateful to have more high quality seating in the class so that I can help students in small groups or individually. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. David

  • Snacks to Keep Us Going Strong!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

My class was so excited to get the huge snack donation! They were thrilled to open box after box and see our snack stash replenished. Thank you for making this happen!

Every week, two new students have the job "snack manager". They are in charge of choosing and distributing snacks every day. If it's loose snack like Goldfish, they measure the snack out in students' cups. They are all very responsible with this job. Everyone looks forward to snack each day. Having so many snacks to choose from and to last us awhile was a gift. We very much appreciate your generosity helping us have a snack break and fuel up.

Thank you again. I am grateful for your generosity to help my class out.”

  • Books and Bins to Build Literacy Skills!

    Funded Sep 5, 2022

Every year I've taught there have always been two reoccurring issues: students get bored of the books in the classroom library and students lose track of their books and materials. You have no idea how much your contribution to this project has helped our class. My students has been more organized than ever this year and students really enjoy the routine of having bins to put their materials in. They were also delighted to see brand new books on the shelves.

In the first few weeks of school, I did "unboxing" presentations of the books you purchased. They really looked forward to the time we spent looking at the new titles. In particular, the kids were thrilled to see new graphic novels. These flew off the shelves and have continued to be popular. Graphic novels are especially important for readers not quite at grade level. It allows them to access stories they are interested in, feel accomplished by finishing books, and grow their love of reading. The books in Spanish also made a difference for a few students who are multilingual. These students were excited and proud to be reading books in Spanish during independent reading. Here is a student quote: "I want to thank the people who donated. I am very thankful you donated. This school needs books. I really appreciate it."

The bins are used for students to organize their reading and writing materials (workbooks, notebooks, independent reading books, folders, etc.). Here are a few student quotes to express our gratitude:

"Thank you because I wouldn't have anywhere to put my stuff into."

"Thank you. You guys are so cool because the bins helped us with our writing and stuff." The bins have greatly minimized cases of students losing materials. They are also sturdy enough to last for years to come. Thank you again for supporting our classroom!”

  • Fuel Learning Through Snack Time!

    Funded Jul 10, 2019

We all feel so grateful for the snack and cup donation you all gave us! Thanks to you, our class has been well fed from the very first day of school. Each week, two students have the "Snack Helper" classroom job. They prepare snack in for each student in the cups you provided. This routine is something students always look forward to and they enjoy their snack while working on their math warm up after recess!

It might seem trivial, but the cups have helped enormously! Students know exactly which cup belongs to them and they are so durable and will last. I am able to run them through the dishwasher regularly to keep us healthy (particularly when a virus started going around the class the other week!).

It is a relief to know that I always have a stash of filling protein/granola bars on hand for students who miss breakfast or need something to eat to keep them going throughout the day. You've helped to make sure that empty bellies are never a barrier to learning in our classroom. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • Making Reading Comfy and Fun

    Funded Mar 28, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations to purchase these comfy pillows for our classroom! The pillows arrived during the school day and students were thrilled to open the boxes and start using the pillows right away. They love how large the pillows are and often share with a friend.

The pillows you gave our classroom transformed independent reading time. What was once a task that students resisted became a very joyful part of the day. Students looked forward to when it was their turn to use a pillow. Being able to choose where they read and having the comfy pillows resulted in much more actual time spent reading!

The washable covers make it easy to keep these pillows going strong for classes to come. I'm very much looking forward to introducing them to my new group of students in the fall. Thank you for your support of my students. Know that your donation created many smiles in our classroom.”

  • Modeling Mathematics in Upper Elementary

    Funded Aug 30, 2018

I am grateful for your contribution to my classroom. Thanks to your support and generosity, I got the year started off with enough materials to enhance my math instruction! A big thank you to all of you!

The individual whiteboards have already made a huge impact in my class. When I first brought them out, the class was very excited to have new whiteboards and also enough for each student. We started off using them in small math groups to solve problems, as you can see in the pictures. Now we have moved towards also using them in whole-class lessons. I can post a problem for students to solve and they enjoy using the whiteboards to practice and show their work.

The Polydron shapes were a huge hit. All students were instantly engaged in exploring this tool. We will continue working with the Polydron shapes when we explore geometry. For now, I have loved seeing how the students work together to build various shapes and make discoveries on their own. We will link all that independent work to geometry concepts. I've even had a few students ask if they can stay in during recess to build more with the Polydron shapes!

The multiplication and division kits have helped provide extra support to students during our multiplication unit. These provide a visual and hands on method for learning multi-digit multiplication and division. These kits help students make connections to the strategies we learn in lessons. Students have worked a little with these kits and I'm excited to continue using them to support students with division concepts.

Thank you again for all your support. You've truly made a difference in my classroom and I'm excited to have these materials for many classes to use and learn from.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. David

Modeling math concepts in upper elementary can be challenging. My students will be working with larger numbers, performing operations of fractions and decimals, using their understanding of geometry, and graphing. I want to provide authentic opportunities for my students to explore and make mathematical discoveries. The Polydron Shapes will be foundational for our geometry study. I want to make sure my students get in-depth experience with geometry concepts. The Multiplication & Division kits will help students model these operations with larger numbers. Fraction Multipliers will provide more concrete understanding of this concept. My students need fresh whiteboards to individually problem solve and show their thinking. We currently have some usable ones but the Write & Wipe Lapboards will complete our set. The Graphing Boards will support our learning about graphing on a coordinate plane. These boards will make it so much easier for students to get practice using the coordinate system since the coordinate plane is already there.
