Long gone are the days of single desks in straight rows. The goal of flexible seating is to better engage students and empower them with choices by providing diverse seating options. Flexible seating facilitates student-centered, collaborative learning, fosters a positive classroom community, and even promotes healthy, kinesthetic learning. Flexible seating will help foster my vision for a student-centered fluid workspace, a malleable learning lab that supports instructional best practices. Research shows a correlation between the subtle movements that flexible seating allows and an increase in student focus and engagement. It makes classrooms more accessible for students, increases student engagement, and opens the room to a variety of learning styles.
