  • Calculators for Math Success

    Funded Apr 7, 2025

On behalf of our 7th-grade students and our entire teaching team, thank you so much for your generous contribution toward providing calculators for our classroom. Your support has already made a meaningful difference in the way our students learn and engage with math.

While many of us use technology daily in our personal lives, the impact of thoughtfully chosen tools—like these calculators—inside the classroom is truly transformative. For our students, calculators aren't just about getting the right answer; they are a bridge to deeper understanding. With this technology, our students can explore patterns, test out strategies, and gain confidence in solving complex problems without getting discouraged by arithmetic mistakes.

What excites the students most is how empowered they feel. For many, it's their first time using a calculator consistently in class, and they're amazed by how it helps them "see" the math rather than get stuck in it. You can almost see their anxiety lift when they realize they can focus on *how* to solve a problem rather than just the numbers themselves.

One student in particular, a quiet but curious learner named Jalen, had been hesitant to participate in math discussions. Since using the calculator, he's been raising his hand more, checking his work, and even helping peers with tricky problems. The boost in confidence has been incredible to watch. He recently told me, "I used to be scared of math, but now I feel like I can actually do it."

Your generosity has created these moments. You've helped make math not just more accessible, but more exciting—and for that, we are deeply grateful.”

  • Inspiring Young Readers -“The Song of Us” by Kate Fussner

    Funded Feb 9, 2025

On behalf of our 7th-grade class, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for your generous donation of *The Song of Us* by Kate Fussner. Because of your kindness, our students were able to experience this beautiful story firsthand, and the impact has been truly inspiring.

Reading *The Song of Us* was a journey that resonated deeply with our students, sparking thoughtful discussions about identity, friendship, and the power of storytelling. The experience became even more special when we had the incredible opportunity to hear from the author herself. Meeting Kate Fussner and asking her questions about her writing process gave our students invaluable insight into the world of authorship and creative expression. Many left the conversation feeling inspired to tell their own stories.

Your generosity made this experience possible, and we cannot thank you enough for your support of our students' love of reading and learning. You have made a lasting difference, and we are so grateful.”

  • New Speakers for Audiovisual Learning!

    Funded Sep 9, 2023

My students are so excited about the new speakers in our classroom! The students were waiting with baited breath for their arrival, and one student even stayed after school to help me set them up. I am able to play so much more multimedia content - from podcasts to youtube videos to their favorite daily show of CNN10, we can hear everything much better. These speakers will be used for years to come. I am so excited for my unit where students listen to songs from the play "In the Heights" -- now I will no longer have to bring a portable speaker from home to play from my phone! Thanks again!”

  • A Virtual Trip to Washington Dc and Philly!

    Funded Nov 16, 2022

We hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. On behalf of all the students and educators at the Healey School, we wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support in making our virtual class trip to Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia a reality. Thanks to your generosity, we embarked on a remarkable educational journey that will forever leave an indelible mark on our understanding of American history.

Throughout the virtual excursion, we had the privilege of visiting numerous iconic sites that are steeped in the rich tapestry of our nation's past. In Washington, D.C., we explored the hallowed grounds of the National Mall, standing in awe of the majestic Lincoln Memorial, the enduring symbol of unity and justice. The memorials to Thomas Jefferson and Franklin D. Roosevelt reminded us of the profound impact these visionaries had on shaping our democratic principles.

Moreover, we were fortunate to witness firsthand the awe-inspiring architectural marvel that is the U.S. Capitol building. Its imposing presence symbolizes the strength and resilience of our democratic institutions, which have withstood the test of time. As we stood on the steps of this historic structure, we couldn't help but feel a sense of reverence for the countless men and women who have dedicated their lives to upholding the ideals of freedom and liberty.

In Philadelphia, the birthplace of American independence, we immersed ourselves in the history that paved the way for our great nation. At Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were debated and adopted, we were humbled by the courage and foresight of our founding fathers. The Liberty Bell, a symbol of freedom, echoed through our souls, reminding us of the sacrifices made by those who fought for our rights and inspired us to be custodians of liberty for future generations.

Our visit to the National Constitution Center provided an invaluable opportunity to deepen our understanding of the principles that underpin our democratic society. Through interactive exhibits and engaging presentations, we explored the fundamental rights and responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution, igniting a passion for active citizenship within each one of us.

By experiencing both Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, we gained a holistic perspective on American history. These cities serve as living testaments to the struggles and triumphs that have shaped our nation. Through our virtual journey, we learned not only about pivotal events but also about the diverse voices and perspectives that have contributed to the American story.

None of this would have been possible without your unwavering support and belief in the power of education. Your generosity has allowed us to transcend physical boundaries and connect with our nation's heritage in a profound and meaningful way. The memories we have created and the knowledge we have gained will forever be etched in our minds, serving as the foundation for a lifelong love of learning and appreciation for the importance of our shared history.

Once again, we extend our deepest gratitude for your incredible generosity. Your investment in our education will undoubtedly shape the future of our nation. We are immensely grateful for your kindness and for providing us with an unforgettable virtual class trip experience.”

  • Snacks for Eager Middle Schoolers

    Funded Dec 17, 2022

Thank you so much for helping feed my students! These snacks were a great way to encourage focus and stamina through some literal fuel. The kids loved the chewy bars, Rice Krispie treats and fruit snacks. They ate the Rice Krispie treats on a field trip to the local library, where the majority of them got their first library cards & learned that the library is not only a place for books but a community hub. Many students also ate snacks in my room while they stayed after school doing homework and catching up on missing work. These snacks were so appreciated!”

  • Literature That Connects to Students' Lives

    Funded Aug 28, 2021

Thank you so much for your donations! My students loved reading the book The Skin I'm In as a class. It was a great experience after a year primarily of remote learning to read a book together as a class, especially a book as powerful as this one, with relatable themes for students about bullying, grief and colorism.

Many students did not read a whole book while in remote learning and they loved having a brand new physical copy of the text.

The most powerful moment of reading the Skin I'm In was when we read the end together as a class. In brief, the main character goes through a transformative moment where she gains self confidence. At the end of the book, the students clapped and hooted because they were so excited for her.

I wanted to clap and hoot because I was so happy they experienced the joy of reading a book. Most of the students, when asked, gave the book 5/5 stars!”

I teach a diverse group of thoughtful, energetic learners with a wide range of reading abilities at a low income urban school. Our school is a small K-8 with close ties to the surrounding community. My students especially love making connections between literature, the world, and their own lives. They are a group who has struggled to maintain investment in school in the past. Yet this year, they have firmly decided that they want their reputation to be that of learners and scholars, and they have shown their investment by embracing project-based learning, staying after school to finish incomplete work and homework, and committing to independently reading 30 minutes a night.
