  • First Graders Need These Books Right Now!

    Funded Oct 19, 2009

Thank you so much for helping to provide these much needed books for our struggling readers! With the help of these just-right texts, students were able to build the basic skills and confidence to grow as readers. Most of them have now moved on to much more advanced books and are very proud of their accomplishments in literacy. We can see the difference, not only in their abilities, but also in their enthusiasm for reading. They know now that they can read and they love to share their talents. Your help has provided these students with a love of reading that will stay with them for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Whitmore

  • Help First Graders Learn To Read!

    Funded Oct 18, 2009

Thank you so much for donating these much-needed books to our classroom! Our students have had many hours of reading instruction and practice thanks to you. These books allowed our most struggling readers the practice they desperately needed. Because they were able to read books at their own levels, they had a chance to build confidence and the skills needed to read more difficult books. The difference in their ability and enthusiasm has been enormous. We can't thank you enough for supporting these First Graders where they needed it the most!”

  • Poetry for Aspiring Poets!

    Funded Oct 1, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom! These books have inspired a new appreciation for poetry for these First Graders! They have especially enjoyed the holiday themed collections by Jack Prelutsky. Our favorite poem so far this year is The Zombie from The Headless Horseman Rides Tonight. Poetry is an amazing tool for learning fluency, comprehension, and appreciation of literature. These books have made our classroom a brighter place. We can't thank you enough! ”

  • Just-Right Books for Every Student

    Funded Oct 7, 2009

Thank you so much for helping to provide these fabulous books for our First Graders! Our students absolutely love to read these popular series books and having new titles to choose from has created even more excitement in the classroom.

Students are waiting in line for a turn with the Fairy Magic books. Students at higher reading levels love to read Magic Treehouse books during independent reading time. And the whole class enjoys listening to us read aloud the Junie B series.

These students will be into these series books for years to come thanks to your help. Your gift has had such a positive impact on literacy time in our classroom. We can't thank you enough!”

  • Let's Visit The Rainforest!

    Funded Apr 9, 2009

Thank you so much for donating the materials we needed to create a rainforest environment inside our classroom! Students loved reading all of the amazing rainforest books, especially those with photographs of real rainforest animals. We invited a guest artist to our room to help us decorate the walls with plants and animals of the rainforest. We then decided to take the project even farther. We created our own play, inspired by the book The Great Kapok Tree. Students researched endangered rainforest animals and created their own costumes and lines, then presented the play to our whole school. We now have an entire class of little environmentalists at our school hard at work to preserve the rainforest.

We couldn't have done it without you!”

  • An EGGsperiment For First Graders!

    Funded Nov 24, 2008

Thanks so much for giving us the chance to do this fantastic project! We will be headed to the farm to pick up our eggs on April 21st. They will stay with us in their cozy new incubator for about three weeks before they hatch into adorable chicks. We are so excited to meet our new babies and can't wait for spring”

  • Games Grow Brains!

    Funded Feb 27, 2009

Thank you so much for the generous donation of games and puzzles for our classroom!  These games have brought many smiles to the faces of our first graders.  By playing together, they have built many important skills, including patience, fairness, and how to be a good sport.  At the same time, they are also improving their problem-solving, spacial, and spelling abilities.  Even when we have free choice time, students flock to these educational, knowledge-building games and puzzles. Thanks to you, students have had hours of fun and built team work and social skills, all while learning how to spell, add, subtract, and solve problems!  We really can't thank you enough.”

  • Help Our Library Grow with Our Students

    Funded Feb 25, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donation to help us provide more meaningful books to our students.  They absolutely adore Junie B and Captain Underpants!  I sometimes even have to intervene when too many students all want to read the same book at once.  We use some of the books, like Frog and Toad and Miss Nelson, with our listening center, so that now several students can listen to a story at once and still be able to read along with the book, which is an excellent way for them to build fluency and recognition of high frequency words.

Your gift could not have come at a better time; just when I was worrying that students were losing interest in the same old books from our classroom library, this amazing package filled with new and exciting titles arrived!  These fabulous books have given new life to students' love of reading.

We really can't thank you enough!

Thank you so much for helping us to provide books for my first-graders! These new books will enable them to continue to grow as readers, in both ability and enjoyment. • First Graders In Low Income School Need A Listening Center!

    Funded Dec 16, 2008

Thank you so much for helping us to get a new listening center for our classroom! This will create a new exciting way for my students to be exposed to language, and they will want to use it all the time. It will help them to build fluency and language skills and it will also foster their enjoyment of reading. Thank you”
