  • Favorite Books for First Graders!

    Funded Jul 1, 2013

Thank you so much for supporting these well-deserving First Graders as they grow as readers! My students were so thrilled to have a supply of shiny new books to start the school year with!

It is so much fun to see students getting excited about reading as they start to build favorite authors and series. When kids are interested in what they are reading, their comprehension and decoding skills grow organically- they are having so much fun that they don't even notice until suddenly they are real readers! The skills and enthusiasm they develop during this time will stick with them for their whole lives. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Whitmore

  • First Grade Essentials! We Need Pencils, Glue, & Markers!

    Funded Oct 22, 2012

Thank you so much for these much-needed supplies! My students have been hard at work using all of their new goodies. The First Graders have learned to write stories, nonfiction books, and solve very tricky math problems using their fabulous new pencils. With their glue sticks, they have made Valentines, mosaics, and word sorts. The class has been most excited for new dry-erase markers. They use them every week to make handwriting practice and spelling sight words fun and exciting. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Whitmore

  • First Grade Readers Need Just Right Books!

    Funded Sep 5, 2012

Thank you so very much for providing my amazing students with these much-needed books!

The class has been so happy to have brand new books at their own just-right levels. These new books have helped the students to build fluency, knowledge of sight words, and phonics skills. We are so pleased with the enthusiasm for reading and the progress that the kids have made.

Without the help of generous donors like you, we could not have had this opportunity. We really can not say thank you enough!”

  • Let's Get Organized!

    Funded Apr 7, 2012

Thank you so much for donating these awesome organizational tools to my class! Our room is so much more organized now that we have a nice neat place for everything. It is so great for the students to be able to work and play more efficiently than ever. We especially love the Clip A Zip set- we have used it to organize our audio books to make the listening center much less cluttered. We really can't thank you enough. The generosity of Donors Choose givers has greatly improved life and learning in First Grade.”

  • Pencils and Crayons for First Grade Authors!

    Funded Oct 11, 2011

Thank you so much for helping my students to get these much needed writing implements! It makes such a big difference to our classroom. Now everyone is able to focus on completing their beautiful work instead of arguing about supplies. Our students have used their new pencils to write amazing fiction stories and illustrate them with fantastic details. They have also used their pencils to solve many math problems, and have used crayons to record their own patterns made with pattern blocks. We will continue to use the crayons and pencils for the rest of the year for many more great projects! Yay!”

  • Musical Theater Workshop for First Grade Performers!

    Funded May 20, 2011

Thank you so much for helping my class have this amazing experience! The kids had so much fun and they can't stop talking about it. They learned to act by showing different emotions for their characters. They learned some very cute dance moves. And they learned a song about show business. I still see the First Graders doing the dance and humming the song they learned. The folks from the TADA Theater Program were amazing- they really know how to keep the kids having fun and learning. We would love to be able to do this again!”

  • Awesome Audio Books for Amazing First Graders!

    Funded Nov 16, 2011

Thank you so much for giving these fantastic audio books to my class. My students are thrilled to be able to use the listening center again, and they can't stop talking about the books they've read. It's so nice for them to be exposed to these great classic books that are just a little bit beyond their independent reading levels. This means that they're building comprehension skills, fluency, and sight words by following along with the texts. So far, they've listened to Corduroy and Where the Wild Things Are, and they can't wait for the next book! We really appreciate your support. ”

  • Camera: Action! First Grade Filmmakers Build Fluency

    Funded Jul 15, 2011

Wow! Thank you so much for giving us this amazing resource! We have already done so much with our new camera. The students created their own role-play skits about how to handle situations in which somebody does something rude. We recorded our first reader's theater play and watched it together to see what we can do better next time. We made videos of animals on our field trip to the zoo. And coming up next, we will be performing a re-enactment of the First Thanksgiving! This may be the best gift our classroom has ever received! Thank you so much!”

  • Markers And Crayons And Pencils, Let's Write!

    Funded Dec 30, 2010

Thank you so much for generously providing these much-needed writing implements to my First Graders. My students are so pleased to have enough pencils to go around! It is wonderful to see the children able to focus on their work without having to stop to hunt for a pencil. My students especially love the very fancy Crayola crayons. The amazing array of colors have inspired the imaginations of these growing writers and illustrators. We can't thank you enough for these fabulous resources!”

  • Computers for First Graders!

    Funded Jan 7, 2011

Thank you so much for giving us these amazing computers! My students are so lucky to have access to technology of this quality. They are crazy about our new MacBook Pros! My First Graders are now very computer savvy. They are able to start up the computers, access the internet, and select educational websites. Students practice addition and subtraction skills, count money, tell time, build phonics skills, and participate in online reading comprehension lessons all within the classroom. Having our own computers enables us to differentiate almost every single lesson for students who are struggling and extend learning for students who have advanced skills. This gift has really transformed our classroom learning environment. We can't thank you enough!”
