  • iPads - Help Me Help Them Ignite Their Curiosity!

    Funded Aug 1, 2016

    Dear Donor,

The difference you have made within our 1st grade classroom is immeasurable. Because of your donation my students are able to explore a depth of our curriculum that otherwise would have remained untouched. Their engagement level is through the roof when working on a project using our new iPad Airs.

Here are just a few things that my 1st graders are beginning to learn how to do: Use various apps to practice reading and math skills; Use the camera tool in order to take pictures of their writing, word work, and other projects in order to prove their independence with that activity. Their photos are also being used to upload their learning to our "Happy In First" Blog.

I am eager to explore the following projects as the year progresses: Basic introduction to podcasting in order to deepen knowledge and enhance engagement of a wide variety of topics, podcasting with Pen Pals, Reading Radio podcasts where students read books from our classroom library and then record a short summary of the book. Their classmates can then watch the summaries to help them choose a book they'd enjoy reading. I will also be facilitating the practice of reader's theater scripts during my guided reading groups, my students will work on fluency, expression, and comprehension strategies prior to recording their voices.

The students' enthusiasm is already contagious and we're excited to see what other projects unfold as we become more familiar with the iPad's capabilities.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gahafer

A top priority for me within the classroom is to continue to provide experiences that draw out kids’ natural curiosity. If a student is curious about a topic, the learning possibilities are endless. In order to ignite this curiosity, daily, teachers must be extremely creative with our limited resources. A set of 6 iPads would be an incredible resource that would open up a whole new world for my kids. We would use them daily within small groups in order to take each topic (Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies) to a deeper level. Help me help them go past the limits of our classroom texts and access the excitement of our world. I know this is an incredibly large project to fund and I truly need your support in order to make this a reality for my kids.
