Writing Supplies for Kindergarten
Funded Jun 30, 2024My students are off to a great start with writing this year, partly thanks to you! They are feeling really successful telling their own stories with pictures and most recently with words!
One highlight has been their new writing folders. Having a place to store all their amazing work was so exciting for them. I love seeing them get out their folders, find writing they started the day before and add more. Just yesterday we went back to our old writing and added more sounds we hear in the words we want to write!
Thank you so much for your donations to help make writing fun and successful in kindergarten! Having the supplies we need makes things go more smoothly and helps students feel like real authors!”

Adding More Drama to Dramatic Play
Funded Mar 1, 2024Thank you so much for making this project possible. My students love our dramatic play center and they are having so much fun with the new materials. I set up a post office for them first. We watched a short PBS video about what happens at a post office. Then, we talked about the different jobs they could do there. The students signed up to try out the jobs and are having so much fun sending postcards to friends.
When I first set up the post office there was a rush to "buy" postcards and stamps. I love that this is helping them practice their writing and reading in such a fun way. I can't wait to see what they can do with the camping set up next.
Through their work in dramatic play, the students are doing such wonderful work practicing social skills like compromise, sharing, taking turns, and helping each other. I love being able to provide them with more materials for this important work! Next we will have a campground and then a coffee shop and bakery!”

Spark Imaginations in Kindergarten
Funded Nov 17, 2021Thank you so much for providing materials for our dramatic play center. The students have loved building and creating with these items.
They were so excited to see the Race and Roll ramp. I saw spontaneous science experiments happening right away! Kids were testing different cars to see which could go faster and testing out different ramp surfaces to see which would slow down cars more.
Having more animals for our dramatic play center has been wonderful! The kids are having so much fun making zoos and using their imaginations to tell stories with these different animals.
We are just now able to add in our wooden blocks and the kids are loving using these items with the big blocks too!”

A Great Printer for a Great Class!
Funded Sep 5, 2021Thank you so much for helping me bring this high-quality printer to my classroom. This has already made an impact on my efficiency and ability to provide resources for my students.
I'm able to print and access things like phonics cards, poems, and images for kids to sort. Having this printer in my classroom makes it much easier for me to get the resources I need right away.
Typically I have to print and then go down to the office to collect what I need. With this printer, I can print what I need right in my classroom, using the paper I want and use it with my students right away!
Thanks for your support!”

Materials for Busy Hands
Funded Jan 22, 2021Thank you so much for helping me provide materials for my little learners!
They have been back in school for 2 days and it has been so wonderful to have them here. We are already using the scissors purchased through this Donors Choose Project for math.
Next week we will be creating some President's Day art that will use the multicultural paper you helped provide.
I'm excited to have the kiddos use the paint sticks to decorate their Valentine's Day bags too!
With limited funds for our school this year, your donations have made a huge difference for my classroom. Thank you so much!”

Wobble Chairs for Wiggles
Funded Oct 22, 2020My students will be back in person on February 1st. I am so excited that they will have wobble chairs to sit on in the classroom. These chairs will help my students get their wiggles out and stay focused on what we are learning.
Since we have to social distance, the students won't be able to move around the classroom like we usually do. Being still is hard for kindergartners! I am so happy to be able to give them a way to move and still stay safe.
Thank you so much for your contribution to this project. My students are so lucky to have your support!”

Building a Racially Conscious Library for Kindergarten
Funded Jul 10, 2020Thank you so much for your donation to help me make my classroom library more racially conscious. These books tell stories about kids and their lives. However, these books show my students kids who don't always look like them and don't always have the same experiences, language, or traditions that they do.
While we are still remote, I have been reading these books to my students during our zoom meetings. The kids love hearing stories and talking about books. I am so happy to be able to share such a diverse collection of books with my students virtually.
These books are particularly powerful for my students who are not white, and those who come from different cultures, backgrounds, and countries. It is powerful for them to see kids in books who look like them, talk like them, and celebrate and eat the same things they do. I want my students to see themselves in our virtual classroom, and these books help me do that.
Opening this box and seeing these beautiful books arrive was such an amazing gift. Thank you so much for helping me bring these colorful, thoughtful, and engaging books to all of my students.”

Big Books for Awesome Readers!
Funded Mar 12, 2019I was so excited to add these books to our classroom. Thank you so much! Big books are very useful in kindergarten. They give us a chance to share our reading and have a text that everyone can read and enjoy easily. Big Books are also very exciting for kindergartners to read on their own.
We have already checked out these books with our reading partners. We didn't realize there were so many books that were this big!
We have also already used "Silly Sally" as a shared reading text. We use this text to study words, talk about the story, and notice phonics concepts like digraphs (sh, ch, th) or rhyming.
What an incredible opportunity for my students to have access to these great resources.”

Strengthening Cultural Identify for Kindergartners
Funded Feb 19, 2019Thank you so much for this incredible gift. My students have grown so much as readers this year and it has been so fun to see them get excited about these books and choose to spend time looking through them during our daily choice time.
We have been using these books to compare and contrast our lives with the lives of others. We have found that we have a lot in common with kids who look different and live in different places. We started using these books by just looking through them and then discussing what we noticed. I asked them what they noticed about the books and their answers were: the pictures are colorful, there are kids in them, there are people in them. We talked more about how the characters in these stories are the same as us: kids doing kid things, and how they are different: how they didn't look like some of us.
I am continuing to read these books to my students for enjoyment, and to discuss social issues like sharing, taking turns, and wanting something someone else has. I am so thrilled to have be able to add these incredible books to my classroom library.”
