Since introducing flexible seating and self-selected centers, my students feel more empowered. Young children become more engaged when classrooms contain appealing and appropriate materials. However, this freedom requires a coordinated effort on the part of the teacher to group materials. These organized storage cabinets allow students to have control and take responsibility for materials. Having access to necessary materials is imperative student learning. I have seen first hand how student focused classroom organization increases time on task. The see through boxes and child sized shelves are appealing and attractive. Our classroom will benefit tremendously from the addition of personal cubbies.
