  • High Needs Urban School Needs Essentail Classroom Materials!

    Funded Oct 27, 2009

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for your Donorschoose.org donation in support of "High Needs High School Needs Essential Classroom Materials". Your donation fully funded my proposal, which provided my students with journals, class supplies such as markers, folders and construction paper.

I cannot express to you how much your donation is valued. By providing your donation, my class was able to fully function, without the worry of demanding the students bring in materials that they truly cannot afford. Every day we complete "Do Nows" to be written in their journals, and thanks to you, the students that did not have money for school supplies are able to fully participate in class because your donation provided them with a journal. When a student is in need of a pen or pencil, instead of having a battle as to why they are unprepared, we can leave the battle for another day and instead they can just focus on the task at hand. Students are more engaged through the use of new supplies such as construction paper and markers. I have noticed that the students take greater pride in ownership of their learning when they walk into a classroom where they feel welcomed, prepared and that everything they need is already taken care of. Your contribution directly helped create this atmosphere of the students taking greater pride in their education.

Once again, thank you very much for your donation and know that your funding provided the essential classroom materials to ensure the students are well prepared for school. Thank you!

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smith

  • Starting the School Year Off Right--Books Wanted!

    Funded Sep 2, 2009

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for your Donorschoose.org donation in support of "Starting the Year Off Right—Books Wanted!" Your donation fully funded my proposal, which provided my students with individual leveled copies of the book The Scarlet Letter and the video.

I cannot express to you how much your donation is valued. By providing your donation, my class was able to fully function at the beginning of the year, without the worry of scrambling for texts or books that are not provided. I could feel the students sense of togetherness when they each had their own book to be responsible for.

By providing your donation, the students were able to read a classic book of English literature, but on their own reading level, which is rare for newcomer English Language Learners. They will then be able to use this story and the literary elements they learned from this book, and apply it to the Regents Exam this June. Knowing that they have a full novel under their belts helps them feel better prepared to confront such a daunting endeavor. After the students finished reading the book, your donation brought the classic film into the classroom so that the students could visualize and contextualize as well as compare and contrast the video with the film. They really enjoyed this part of the unit.

Once again, thank you very much for your donation and know that your funding provided a book to start off the year for so many students. Thank you!

    With warmest thanks,

  • SAT Prep Class Needs Some Prep!

    Funded Sep 8, 2009

Dear Mr. Isler, Thank you so much for your Donorschoose.org donation in support of "SAT Prep". Your donation fully funded my proposal, which provided each student with an individual SAT workbook they can keep, a class video and working flashcards for vocabulary. These books have proved essential to conducting my SAT prep class. As an urban public school, we have little funding for students to have their own workbooks. I have noticed how my students' motivation levels have greatly increased as they are able to take home their own workbooks and therefore take more initiative and ownership over their learning.

My students would not have their materials without your support. Your donation has directly put the materials needed to make the SAT class engaging and interactive, all thanks to you! As these students are learning English as a second language, the SAT can seem daunting and nearly impossible. But your donation has made it more accessible, comprehensible and the students feel more prepared. With all true sincerity, thank you kindly for your donation and your commitment to the needs of urban education.

    With warmest thanks,

  • Teaching Tolerance through "Kaffir Boy"

    Funded Dec 26, 2008

As the Christmas holiday just passed, I can honestly say that the best gift I received this year was having this project funded. I sincerely thank you for your contribution. Not only am I certain my students will greatly enjoy reading this book (which happens to be one of my favorites from high school) and their minds will be expanded, but also I will be rejuvenated as a teacher who gets the opportunity to teach about something I feel so passionately about. What a beautiful gift you have given: helping those students in need who deserve the same opportunity at equal education and cultural exposure. My students will be deeply grateful, as I am extremely appreciative. God bless you for your generosity! Have a healthy and happy New Year!

    With Sincere Thanks,

    Ms. ”

  • College Prep on A Saturday?!

    Funded Jan 18, 2009

Thank you so much for your generosity and thoughtfulness in supporting my classroom cause! Our students will be very eager and grateful for these resources which will guide our college preparation class on Saturdays. From resume writing to college admissions essays and tips, these books will teach them and assure them of their own abilities. For many of our students, they will be the first in their families to attend college. Feeling fully prepared is the first step, so be proud that you are helping to equip the next generation with higher education. Thank you so muc”
