Our 6th grade class is made up of approximately 160 students in an urban area school. The student population consists of roughly 80% free or reduced lunch with a high population of African American and Hispanic students. Students work hard to overcome the struggles of reading comprehension and in the last two years we have experienced growth in reading. Students need more access to engaging reading and instructional materials to continue the upward growth. Students also need help with developing critical thinking, inquiry, writing, and collaboration skills as part of the AVID curriculum.
