CompSci Applied- Engineering the Future
Funded Oct 10, 2019This year has been so different due to COVID and being sent home early. Students projects were started before we were sent home but none of them were completed. One group chose to use a Raspberry Pi to build an arcade, with joysticks, buttons, and a monitor. Another group was trying to learn how to combine face-recognition software a student coded with a Raspberry Pi to see if it can be used to open and close a lock. Unfortunately, we were unable to finish the projects this year, but I am already looking at projects for the Raspberry Pi's for next year. Thank you so much for your contributions, it is incredible to see how 12-14 year olds contextualize computer science and want to combine it with their engineering projects. We couldn't have done this without you!”

Funded Apr 4, 2019Technology is being used everyday in school. Not only do these sorts of technology get used by students, but they can now, with the help of you, have the access to the materials that help them. These sorts of technology also provide usage to the staff for student or group activities. We on behalf of Chinook Middle School would like to say thank you for this new technology resource.
Technology helps our students learn daily. Not only does it provide them with a new source of skills, such as learning how to function a camera, but it also provides them a new life skill. Learning to use a camera can be difficult for most students, but having this new source of technology inspires them to persevere and collaborate.
Students are ecstatic about this new technology for many reasons. Such as yearbook, end of year slideshow, sports pictures and much more. Students using the cameras have privileges. The students must complete their work to a high standard to be able to use it. Having the camera inspires them to finish their assignments with good quality to be able to participate in the using of the camera.
At Chinook Middle School, we have many students who are especially interested in the camera. These students always do their work properly with good quality in order to participate in the using of the camera. They are very thankful and always excited to be able to use it. They love to take pictures for the yearbook and the end of year slideshow. It provides them with a new life learning skill and the school with a new helper. We would like to say thank you again for this new camera. It has not only helped us as staff, but our students with learning.”

Ms. Nelson
".IMG-ine IT!" Capturing Video
Funded Mar 1, 2019Thank you for your generous donation to our Computer Technology classroom. This is our first camera and camera equipment for our class. These tools allow us to create dynamic projects using videos to showcase our learning. So far two classes have had the opportunity to take advantage of the tools as a pilot of how the technology will be used for the beginning Computer Tech classes beginning in 2019-2020 school year. We learned Photography techniques: Rule of Thirds, perspectives, and lighting techniques.
Thank you so much!”

Funded May 11, 2018Sorry for the delayed response! We have been enjoying the "t-shirt making" machines so much we lost track of time! So far, students have created team t-shirts for our two Quest for Space teams that are about to launch a radiation robotics simulation up in the ISS in space, in the next few weeks. The teams wore their shirts on a field trip to Microsoft campuses and looked very uniform and professional.
One student even created t-shirts for 4 different teachers. The projects are limitless in their capacity of what the students can create. At this time, 7 matching shirts is the most one group has created. We are learning techniques to use less materials to create more products.
This is been mind-blowing for kids learning how to manage materials, deadlines, and graphic designing for a purpose!”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donations! With the 3d modeling pens we completed a project with fewer waste, in less time, and my students felt like the possibilities were endless. The excitement of these tools coming towards the end of the school year brought a new level of excitement to our class. We created interactive games with the pens. My students had to make a game that other students could play but require them to be able to move parts of their game. From basketball launchers to pinball, these designs were challenging; requiring teamwork, communication, attention to detail, thorough planning, and so much more!
THANK YOU!”

Funded Dec 28, 2017There are many reasons to read and conduct research, even in Design and Engineering. We have begun to explore projects in our MakerSpace library that will allow us to combine structures with movable parts (learning about gears and measurements), circuits and motors.
Students are going through the projects in the books and will share out the projects that we have the resources for and meet the Engineering requirements. Your donation has provided us with resources to give students choice and student voice to enrich their experience using the Design process.
These books are also being used by my computer technology classes to incorporate small computational devices in structures and gaming. Individualized projects and learning has deepened interest and exploration in Engineering and Computer Science fields, plus it's been awesome watching 7th and 8th graders excited to come to class every day to see their creations come to life.
Thank you SO much!!”

Funded Dec 4, 2017Today, the shell of the arcade was measured and cut-out waiting to be painted and assembled. Before today, three teams were developed that built their Raspberry Pi Arcade and made sure the buttons and joystick worked within the cardboard mock-up. Everyone wants to touch, see, and interact with the arcades the three teams put together and asked them a lot of questions about it. Students that are not typically interested in school, projects or even curious about how to put things together, want to learn how to make their own.
Learning can be fun and hands-on, but we could not have had this wonderful experience without your generous donations to support my students. Thank you so much for making this come to life for us. Much love from Ms. Nelson's Design and Engineering classes (period 1, 2 and the small team from 3rd).”
With gratitude,
Ms. Nelson
My Projects Have Sound...Whoa!
Funded Sep 29, 2017Our school year began in a computer lab with a surround sound of noise. Without resources to supply the lab with a set, a few students began bringing their own earbuds from home to use. This unfortunately was not the case for the majority of my students, so they were sharing computers to minimize the sound playing on the many devices around the room. Your charitable donation has made it possible for every student to have a set at their computer station to use independently.
Last semester, we interacted with Digital Citizenship lessons and games, designed images in Photoshop (while listening to music for creative inspiration), edited and created our own beats using various sound editors, and created videos. Imagine doing all of that in a classroom with 30 computers playing the sound for everyone to hear... we did not have to thanks to you.
These headphones allow the user to have studio experience from the comfort of their plastic classroom chair. They can control the volume on each ear to make the experience unique for them and they are heavy duty to handle wear and tear from 7th and 8th graders. We are truly grateful to have you cheering us on while we explore our digital world together. Thank you. THANK YOU. Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Nelson
