  • Tablet Teaching!

    Funded Dec 27, 2017

Thank you for your donations for our classroom charging station. The students and I will be able to ensure that our class tablets are always charged and ready for use. The students use the tablets for many different interactive learning opportunities, and use them throughout the day to help them learn in a variety of ways. It is nice to have a safe place to store, organize and lock the tablets as well as to keep them charged. Without this charging station, the tablets were not always charged and many times, we were unable to use them, now we don't have to worry about the tablets being charged when we need them for instruction. to clean up. I am so excited for the charging station to be delivered and to see the children's faces!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shkolyar-Oricchio

    Funded Aug 22, 2017

I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. You have done much for our school as a whole. These materials will help me with organizing my new classroom as well as help in implementing lesson plans. These materials will also aid in making student friendly anchor charts, class books, and other projects! PS 139 is so blessed to have someone like you who cares so much about our students and our community. On behalf of the entire PS 139 community, we thank you for taking part in educating our children and helping them grow as learners!”

  • Let's Play

    Funded Aug 22, 2017

I wanted to say thank you so very much for your generous donations that supported the creativity and imaginative play of my students! Since we received these new items, our classroom has been a beehive of activity and joy! Students are engaged in different types of activities and are able to try new types of games during choice time. The supplies purchased helped my students to learn how to create and build structures using the blocks, experiment as a scientist, create sculptures with the playdoh and so much more! We all love the toys and materials and are so excited to play with them every day! Thank you so much for helping these students flourish and grow in their classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shkolyar-Oricchio

  • Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

    Funded Aug 22, 2017

We are so grateful to have received this wonderful gift for our classroom. Scholastic News is a fantastic resource for my students! Students love reading Scholastic News. The stories are interesting to my students, creating a meaningful reading experience. Each month, we read our Scholastic News in the classroom and at home. Once we have read the cover story they are ready to watch the video that focuses on the cover story. The videos are a huge hit with my students. After reading all of the articles in Scholastic News, the students and I discuss the content of the articles. Students then complete the questions on the back of Scholastic News independently. Students are becoming accustomed to reading graphs more easily, answering comprehension questions, and building their vocabulary each and every week. Scholastic News has been an excellent addition to the curriculum in my class. Thank you so much for your continued support of our school community and helping my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shkolyar-Oricchio

Thank you for your generous donations and supporting my students. Because of your support my students received new paint, markers, and construction paper to work and create beautiful works of art. Through the art the students are able to express themselves and learn to corporate better by learning how to share and ask one another for materials. The pictures I took show the excitement the students had while using the materials. These materials will be continue to me used for a few years and enjoyed by more happy students. Thank you for your continued support to get these materials needed for my students.”

  • Magnificent Magnatiles

    Funded Feb 7, 2017

Thank you so much for your donation. Our students are thoroughly enjoying the play materials that your donations have provided. There is time everyday that is set aside for play and these magnatiles are always the first ones up for grabs! Your generous donations helped our classrooms so much! They plan and build intricate structures while developing important geometry concepts. Together they work productively for much longer periods of time than at the start of the year and are solving problems successfully through trial and error. The benefits of your gift will live on for years to come with my current students and future students. Thank again for supporting our school!”

  • The Power of Printing!

    Funded Sep 1, 2016

Our class cannot express to you our gratitude for all of your help in funding our printer project!! I had it hooked up and within just a few minutes my students were using it to print out signs and pictures to use throughout the year for different lessons. I am so excited to be receiving this printer. I want to thank you so much for being so gracious with your money especially during this holiday season. Your generosity is so appreciated. This new printer is definitely going to color our classroom. It will give the children in my class opportunities to do more on the computer and to be able to print out more things.

  • A Kitchen for Kindergarten!

    Funded Sep 1, 2016

The students in my classroom can't wait until it's their turn play in the Kitchen Play Center. Many of them love to play restaurant or house with all the play food and baskets. It is such a joy to watch them learn to play together and share, which is a great lesson in life. Kindergarten is a time to explore and learn to coexist and the Kitchen Play Center is an important part of this learning experience.

I can't thank you enough for funding my project and allowing my students and many more students this learning opportunity. It is a favorite center activity, and every student that visits the Kitchen Play Center loves to make believe that they are in a real kitchen! Thank you for giving all my students and future students this role playing opportunity in the Kitchen Play Center!”

  • Can I Take This Book Home?

    Funded Aug 26, 2016

When we first told our students about their new book baggy's, they were beyond excited! They had been previously using Ziploc bags which really weren't doing the trick. The zippers on those bags kept breaking off and their ten books were easily falling out of the bags. These new, sturdy book bags really help the students contain all of their books and allow them to easily take them back and forth from school. Every day in school, the students read for 30 minutes during reading workshop. At home, they also need to read each night for 30 minutes so these book bags really help our students as they continue to grow as readers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shkolyar-Oricchio

My students attend a Title One school. Most of my students come from families from a low socioeconomic status. Our school is a caring community of successful learners which can be seen through collaborative student project based learning in and out of the classroom. Kindergarteners in my class love to work with hands-on materials and have many different opportunities to practice a skill before it is mastered. Having the social skills to work cooperatively with friends is a crucial aspect of kindergarten curriculum.
