I want to give my students the most comfortable environment possible to ensure that learning takes place. In college, in high school, and even in further education, most people like to study on the couch or in a coffee shop. Why shouldn't we give elementary students the same opportunity? With these materials, I want to ensure that my students feel comfortable and secure at all times. This all starts in the classroom environment. One of my students from this past year said, "When I'm not concerned about my butt and back hurting, I can open my brain to bigger ideas." This is my goal, through flexible seating: allowing their brains to become open to bigger ideas. This past year, I had some flexible seating in my classroom and saw a tremendous improvement in my students. My students' grades have improved, they seem happier and more engaged, and finally they are participating more and having invigorating conversations. I teach 5th grade ELA. One thing that I love about this age and this subject is the ability to go deeper and to train my students to think critically. Having a cozy and inviting classroom will allow me to take their thinking to a whole new level!
