A Flexible Place to Engage in Math and ELA Centers
Funded Dec 4, 2019Thank you so very much for sponsoring class 108 and supporting my project,A Flexible Place to Engage in Math and Ela Centers. My students were thrilled to open the boxes of materials together. Each child got a chance to open one of the supplies from inside the shipping box and show it off to the class.
My students have been engaged in counting, adding, subtracting and reading using the manipulatives and Lakeshore games you provided. Students look forward to math centers and guided reading centers so they can learn through hands on activities using fun counting activities such as Counting Cones and Count and Link.
The large pillow and the foldable chairs created a flexible space for students to read independently. Our room is now engaging and comfy!”

Funded May 8, 2019Thank you very much for funding my latest classroom Donor's Choose Project "Math Should be All Fun and Games".
The students were excited to receive the boxes and we opened them together. Each child had an opportunity to take out and share with the class a math center activity. The students were so excited, that when they went to lunch, I opened and prepared each game and set them up as partner stations. Students learned to manage the materials of each game and together we learned how to play them.
The children have been excited to participate in math centers. They love to "pop and add" and count the ducks, bones an apples. Students have been learning to take turns and check each others work. This also has encouraged more math talk and pragmatic language in our classroom.
Thank you again for helping class 108 to be an engaging and fun learning community!”

Funded Feb 24, 2019Thank you to all my donors for supporting this project. My students have been enjoying reading and math center stations because of these engaging Lakeshore activities.
These activities promote my students to work together, play and learn. In math, these activities encourage my students to work in small groups and encourage independence. They feel more confident adding, subtracting, modeling and comparing numbers because they can self check their work or have their partners check. In reading centers, the students can work with their reading groups practicing skill such as phonics, sight words and writing letters.
The students in class 108 were very excited opening the boxes and each student got a chance to take out a kit to share and describe with the class. At that moment they looked forward to math and reading center stations.”

Math Talks Build Math Fluency!
Funded Oct 23, 2018Thank you to all my donors for the ETA han2mond Math fluency Kit. My students have be engaging in math talks with the support of hands on manipulative and visuals to demonstrate their understanding.
The students were excited to get a package in the mail. We opened it together and each child got to take a piece of the kit and unpack it out of the box. They were ecstatic opening the kit and discussing what it will be used for during math.
The students use the number string to model and solve skip counting. Students in kindergarten use the visual cards to show groups to make a number (pre-addition) as my first graders model 2 and 3 addends to get to a given sum. ETA hand2mind fluency kit has been a great resource that can be easily differentiated for ability and grade.
Thank you again for supporting class 108 with resources that help our class grow academically.”

Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you very much for funding my project Do You Have A Pencil... Our Class Will Worry No More. Every student in my class has a primary notebook for writing and reading. We have already begun to use them for our first writers workshop - All About Me. The larger lines and space to draw organizes their writing and helps kindergarten and students with special needs start to form their letters correctly.
Each students has a cup of pencils with grips, an erasable marker and glue sticks at their desk and we are no longer scrambling to find one during our lessons.
I am so excited that the beginning of the year is set up for a successful one because we have supplies. Thank you very much for your generosity.”

Funded Apr 2, 2018I would like to thank everyone of our donors for contributing towards the Hands Full of Guided Reading Fun project. Our class began a new guided reading curriculum and your project made guided reading hands on and enjoyable. Students were thrilled to open the boxes and learn to play the new reading games. They were very surprised to learn that each of you gifted our class with these games in order to make reading fun.
Students in class 108 looked forward to guided reading group time every day. They enjoyed working and playing games like Sight Word Fishing and Initial, Medial and Ending Sounds Pop-O-Matic Build-A-Word. The visual colors, manipulatives and visuals encouraged to students to work independently or with partners. The games provided practice for phonics and fluency and helped to reteach needed literacy skills.
It really makes a statement when a teacher can say her class' favorite time of day was reading, especially when reading doesn't come easy to my students.
Thank you very much for proving a reading block that was truly "A Hands Full of Fun!"”

Motivated by Technology!
Funded Dec 10, 2017I would like to extend my heartfelt thank you for supporting this project and bestowing the gift of technology to my classroom. The students in my class now use the Amazon Fire Tablets as part of their literacy and math centers to allow hands on, engaging and fun activities to bring subjects such as reading and math to life.
Not only has the Amazon Fire Tablets provided an experience using technology, it is teaching my students to share and work together as they use these tablets and practice and play together. Student have learned to take turns and encourage each other to keep trying.
The Amazon Fire Tablets are also a great reinforcement for students who need something to motivate them behaviorally. My students stay engaged in lessons that are non-preferred because they know they will soon have an opportunity to use the tablets to practice math, phonics or reading.”

Mo Williems....Mo Reading!
Funded Sep 1, 2017Thank you very much from Ms. Schaefer's class! The students absolutely loved reading the Mo Willem's books and our library is a much more interesting place since we have added them to our class. The students enjoyed reading about the friendship between Elephant and Piggie. Elephant and Piggie have helped our class learn about friendship, sharing and never giving up if there is a challenge. WE have traveled around the world as we read about Trixie and her best friend Knuffle Bunny. Pigeon books have taught the class the reading and writing skills of opinion and persuasion.
These interesting books are developing a love of reading to a group of children who struggle to read. The interesting pictures and fun topics makes a subject often frustrating to these children fun and enjoyable. My students look forward to Mo' Reading time and chose Mo Willem books during their break time, Students also have the opportunity to use these books in their weekly "bag of books" to being home and read on a weekly basis.
Thank you all for your support and THANK YOU for giving my students an enjoyable collection of children books by Mo Willem's.”

Observing Our World With Measuring Tools
Funded Feb 15, 2017Thank you so much for contributing to Donor's Choose so class 291 could have science tools! The students were so excited to have the boxes delivered that they couldn't wait to open them. We opened the boxes together and the class immediately got to working learning to use microscopes, magnets, measuring tools and magnifying glasses.
The students used the science scale to compare the weight of ten base tens blocks to the weight of a hundred flat. We thought they would weigh the same (because they are both worth 100... their words not mine!) but we learned 10 base ten rods weigh more! We also have used the microscopes and the magnifying glasses to examine celery string and leaves during a nutrition lesson. Students then described the texture of the leaves and string using adjectives and illustrations.
The compasses came to our class at the perfect time! Second graders are learning about maps and using a compass to help find locations. Students used the compass to label our classroom north, south, east and west and identify materials in our class by location.
Thank you so much for giving our small class of children the opportunity to learn science hands on and encourage their love of learning!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Schaefer
