  • Maus Trap

    Funded Nov 30, 2015

It is with great regret that I realized that I failed to send the thank you package for your more than gracious gift. Students benefited greatly from Maus I & II last year and students who heard about the books are very excited about analyzing graphic novels this year. Students who were struggling readers benefited greatly from the illustrations and students who were strong readers already, benefited from the opportunity to analyze the story along with the artistic narrative of one of the most noteworthy events in history.

Students from last year stop by regularly to borrow the books and are reading them again, just for fun. I cannot express how happy this makes me as an educator. Thank you once again for the invaluable gift to our classroom.

    Sincerely,

    Julie Graham”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Graham

  • It's Never Too Late to Learn to Love to Read!

    Funded Jul 17, 2015

The addition of a classroom library has been wonderful! Students are excited to go to the "little" library and check out books and I have heard students discussing the books they are reading with one another. Several students signed out the same books for their quarterly book project and are also reading the books together during silent sustained reading. They take turns reading to one another. When I first introduced my students to the new little library, they said, "But they're all brand new! We can use these? They are for us?" They have taken great care of the books and demonstrate pride in keeping them nice. When one student spilled water in her backpack and ruined a book she came and told me and quickly said but don't worry, I will replace it. I just wanted you to know. I cannot thank you enough for the gift. We use these books daily and students are excited to pick a new book from the library.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Graham

Thank you for visiting my page. I currently teach three English I classes and two English IV classes (High school Freshmen and Seniors). This is my 10th year teaching at a school I helped to build. I am humbled and honored by this privilege and am striving to create a classroom with resources, which will be available to all students. Our school is just 15 years old and we have already won two California Gold Ribbon awards (one for Art and the other for Technology in the classroom). My classroom comprises a diverse demographic, which lends itself to a well-rounded, inclusive environment. Our classroom is a community in which we strive to support one another through the context of literature and a culture that values our precious resources both large and small. Students are always immensely grateful for the support they receive from our global community.
