Funded Nov 28, 2023I am so grateful for your generous donations and interest in our student led club. You have made a huge difference in the lives of my students by funding board games for my Anime Club. These games will help them develop social skills, creativity, and critical thinking while having fun and bonding with their peers. They are very excited to play them and learn more about the anime and Japanese culture. Thank you for supporting our club and our school. You are amazing!”

You helped us create a fun and educational experience for the students, who expressed their appreciation and excitement throughout the event. You also helped us promote the values of creativity, diversity, and community that anime embodies.

Electronic Translators for ESL Classroom
Funded Oct 1, 2015I wanted to thank you again for supporting my project. With your support, I was able to purchase 6 Spanish translators for my students, which they use throughout the day. My entering/beginning language learners are especially grateful for the new devices.
My students use the technology during mini-lessons on new vocabulary and for writing assignments. While teaching students new vocabulary words, many of them use the translators to find the exact translation into their language so they understand what it means. In addition, while working on writing assignments, they translate words from Spanish into English to improve their work.
The translators have also helped with behavior management in my classroom. Students who use the translators are not tempted to use their cell phones in class and can stay focused on the lesson. Moreover, they're able to understand more vocabulary, becoming more confident in their development.
Lastly, many students are excited to use the devices because there are games and activities they can use on it during their free time. This gives them more opportunities to learn in ways that are fun and interesting to them. My classes and I greatly appreciate your support!”

Sensory and Tactile Supplies for ESL/Special Needs Classroom
Funded May 24, 2015Thank you for your support in helping me purchase supplies for my classroom. With your help, I was able to get stress balls, classroom prizes, two timers, and a couple of musical chimes for student behavior and signaling in the class. My students really enjoyed the new prizes for their weekly behavior improvement awards, especially the small dinosaurs. Moreover, the new timer is much louder and easier to use and has helped me better manage classroom time since students are able to see the numbers and hear the alarm sound more clearly. Lastly, students had fun with the new teacher stamps and laughed at their work when it was labeled "REALLY?!" My class and I are so grateful for your support. Thanks again.”

Self-Expression & Self-Discipline Through Breakdance
Funded Mar 4, 2015Thank you so much for donating to the Newtown Breakdance Club. Through your support, the students were able to receive new sound system equipment for their weekly practices. For the past 2 months, they've been working hard to get a routine down for the school's annual multicultural show, and let me tell you, as the final act, they shined. The portable equipment enabled them to practice after school and outside of school to develop their skills. The club gives many of these students a place to go and feel safe after school, and a way to express themselves in a positive, productive and creative activity. I as well at the students want to express our sincere appreciation towards your support. Without your help, it it would be difficult to maintain the routine practices for these students.”

Boardgames and Inteactive Activites for ESL
Funded Sep 22, 2013Thank you for your donation to my classroom project on DonorsChoose.org. I'm currently teaching intermediate and advanced ESL and special education classes, and with your support, my class received various board games, literature, language arts, and behavior posters, and other classroom supplies. These items have been a great resource for my students, and we've been using them frequently as part of classroom instruction and activities. The board games have been used for fun team work and speaking activities. For example, they've played Pictionary based on new vocabulary words and reading comprehension games with question cubes. Being able to incorporate more interactive activities has been especially useful for my class because many of my students are tactile and kinesthetic learns, so they learn best by moving around and interacting with others. The posters have been posted on my classroom walls to serve as visual tools and reminders of literary definitions and grammar rules.
Thank you again for the donation. My students have been greatly benefiting from these new resources and we appreciate your support!”

Help Integrate Technology into ESL Instruction!
Funded Sep 21, 2013Thank you for your donation to my classroom project on DonorsChoose.org. I'm currently teaching intermediate and advanced ESL and special education classes, and with your support, my class received an iPad, literature, language arts, and behavior posters, and other classroom supplies. These items have been a great resource for my students, and we've been using them frequently as part of classroom instruction and activities. The iPad has been used to connect with my classroom SmartBoard, an interactive touch whiteboard, granting me control of the SmartBoard from various parts of my classroom. It's also allowed me to incorporate more interaction in my activities and games. For example, my students enjoy playing Jeopardy and matching games with it. With the iPad, they are able to write on it and have their answers projected on the SmartBoard. Being able to incorporate more interactive activities has been especially useful for my class because many of my students are tactile and kinesthetic learns, so they learn best by moving around and interacting with others. Additionally, my students use the iPad to conduct research for projects and for translating words from English into their native language. I've also downloaded a few behavior management apps on the iPad which has been helping me log and track student participation and misbehavior.
Thank you again for the donation. My students have been greatly benefiting from these new resources and we appreciate your support!”

Ms. Nguyen
