I teach a bilingual second grade class in the South Bronx. My students come from different countries and they live in the poorest congressional district in the United States. Many of my students are recent immigrants who just arrived to this county. Besides struggling with their cultural shock, they are trying to adapt to a new educational system in a totally new language. Despite that, my second graders enjoy reading books and are very exited about learning. They are a great community of learners who help each other read words and finding meaning to what they read.
