Beat the Winter Blues with Fun Indoor Recess Games!
Funded Jan 1, 2025Thank you for your generous donation. The students were so excited to receive these board games during our "Classroom Unboxing." Winters in Chicago are unpredictable and the extremely cold temperatures have kept us inside for recess. The students typically rely on their computers for entertainment, so it has been refreshing to see their excitement while playing "old school" games. They are also practicing conflict-resolution and interpersonal skills!
I will be referring back to these skills that they are practicing when we work on class discussions and group projects.”

Help! We Lost Our Ball!
Funded Oct 11, 2023Thank you so much for your very generous donation. When we received our donors choose project, the students opened it! They were so very excited to see the new soccer balls and footballs! They can't wait to put them to great use during recess and when we visit the nearby park.
We also appreciated your heartfelt note. We will think of you and your family in South Carolina with gratitude every time we play.
Lastly, we wanted to share some of our feelings about the new equipment: "Woah! Now we don't have to fight over that one soccer ball!" "Oh cool, I like that they are all different colors." "Can we share these with the whole grade? Then, everyone can play what they want."
You are helping us build a great community! Thank you!”

Funded Jul 28, 2020Thank you so much for your generosity during this difficult time. We cannot wait to get back into the classroom to begin using our book bench. The bench will be used during our 30 minute independent reading time. Students will have the option to use the bench as a comfy place to read a book of their choosing.
I was able to show students images of the bench while we have been learning remotely. They are sad that they can't use the bench in person yet, but are already calling "dibs" and want to start a sign-up, so they can use it when we get back. Thank you so much for helping me engage students in reading with this new piece of furniture!
I would also like to personally thank you for supporting our classroom organization with this project. I have been fortunate enough to receive funding for additional projects that support students' reading. We recently received books for our classroom library, and I look forward to using the storage in the bench to keep the books close by and accessible.”

Working on Our Writing!
Funded May 27, 2020Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness during these strange times. We are so lucky to be considered for your donation! These writing books will come in handy while we work on improving our writing. As the students have expressed, they are still a bit confused with punctuation, spelling, and which words to capitalize in a sentence. This daily practice will help us become more fluent writers. When I showed the books to the students and told them about the donation, they were shocked that "people who don't know us, sent us these?" Not only does this project teach us to become better writers, but your donation reinforces our classroom goal to always "choose kind." I hope they carry this message with them in their lives and that your kindness teaches them to "pay it forward" in the future. Thank you again!”

Funded May 5, 2020Thank you so much for your consideration during these strange times! The students are so eager to get back into the classroom. I was able to share video of our new Reading Area Pillows, and they said they could not wait to use them! We will be using them when we complete our independent reading period. That period allows for students to find a comfortable place to read for 30 uninterrupted minutes a day. Our hope is to encourage reading books that students select and find ways they comprehend best. The more "normal" reading becomes, the better chance we will be creating life-long readers.
Thank you again for your consideration! Stay safe!”

Funded Oct 9, 2020Thank you so much for thinking of us during the pandemic! We will utilize these materials as soon as we go back to hybrid learning. As there are financial strains on everyone at this time, we did not ask for these supplies from school families this year. However, that doesn’t mean the supplies aren’t needed! We need them now more than ever. Thank you so much for helping create a safer in-person learning environment! We are lucky to have friends like you!”

Books, Books, and More Books!
Funded Feb 25, 2020Thank you so much for your generous donation. My students were so excited to receive
the books they voted on! They asked for the What Was... Series to add to our nonfiction part of the library. A few students are little historians and asked for war books. Many of the kids love anime, so they cannot wait to start reading the Naruto books.
The students in my classroom participate in thirty minutes of independent reading everyday. During that time, the students work on a skill within their independent reading book that I have addressed in an earlier mini lesson. These books provide students with the opportunity to analyze nonfiction text features and literary elements in fiction.
Thank you so much for helping me support my students' reading development through the use of engaging texts!”
