  • LEGO Learning

    Funded May 6, 2019

I want to thank you all again for donating LEGOs in my classroom. We have had so much fun using them to learn and to play. The kids loving having them as an option during indoor recess.

When the kids first saw all the LEGOs, they were ecstatic! They could not believe that people helped to buy so many LEGOs for them to use. Some were even speechless. They have enjoyed having them so much and their creativity has flourished.

We are using the LEGOs to build settings for stories we have read and stories students wrote. Then students can choose how to retell the stories with stop motion animation, video, and Spheros. The possibilities are endless thanks to your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Forsythe

  • Setting Up for Success With Small Group Supplies

    Funded Sep 4, 2018

Our class participated in a Mystery Skype with another class in the United States. We had to use our geography and questioning skills to determine where in the United States the other class was located. The dry erase pockets and markers enabled the students to visually keep track of states that they eliminated and states that were still possibilities. We were able to successfully locate the other class in Tennessee.

The class was so excited to see that there are people who want them to be successful in school and who would donate their own money to make sure that could happen. Moving forward, we will be using the dry erase pockets for math and reading centers so multiple groups of students can complete work that enhances their understanding of various skills without having to constantly print multiple copies of assignments for the whole class.

Again, thank you so much for seeing the value of education and donating your hard earned money to support my class. You are appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Forsythe

The supply caddies will ensure that each table group is easily able to attain their supplies that are necessary to be successful in class throughout the day. It is an easy to way to ensure each student has access to markers, pencils, sticky notes, glue, etc. Small group and one-on-one work are essential pieces of our daily routine, which require materials to meet the needs of all students in the room. The dry erase pockets and markers will allow for small group rotations in which students practice various skills without having to print and copy class sets of every activity. These will also allow students to more easily share their thinking and work with peers in a clear, visual way. Students often come up with questions, wonderings, thoughts, and ideas that they would like to share with the class. However, it is not always the best time to share as soon as they have the thought. Therefore, I encourage students to use sticky notes often to keep track of their thoughts and questions during lessons and activities for themselves and to share with the class when appropriate. My readers love using sticky notes to stop and jot while reading and have blown through most of the ones that were brought in before school started.
