Interactive Supplies For Active Learners
Funded Dec 13, 2017Thank you so much for partnering with me to ensure the success of my students. We are using all of the materials you helped purchase in our learning every day. My students were so excited when they received brand new notebooks, colored pencils, and scissors on the first day of school! So many of my students arrive at school with no materials and that stress is evident on their faces on the first day. The relief that flooded them when they saw new materials provided just for them was an amazing sight to see. Thank you!
We use the notebooks and colored pencils daily. Students are able to take notes in math and reading and using the color helps them remember what they've written. The interactive pieces in their notebooks are another tool students use to learn and remember concepts and skills. These tools have allowed students who traditionally do not feel successful to access challenging concepts and show just how smart they really are.
Thank you, again, for partnering with me. My students and I appreciate your support.”

The Novels are Coming! The Novels are Coming!
Funded May 5, 2017First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for your donation for this project. As I am sure most of you know, the most difficult thing about being a teacher is knowing when your students have needs, and you do not have the resources to fund those needs. By participating in this project, you have provided the students with an opportunity to be able to read and connect with another time period and culture. The students are really excited to read this book.
Your generosity will allow me to design an integrated project for all of the 5th graders at our school. In Social Studies, the students will study the American Revolution and carefully examine historical figures such as George Washington, King George III, Thomas Jefferson, Abigail Adams, Phillis Wheatley, and Benjamin Franklin. They will also conduct an in depth analysis of the Declaration of Independence. In Literacy, the students will read the novel and analyze the major characters while they make connections to the American Revolution.
We are all excited to spend time with these compelling characters. Thank you for making this learning possible for my students.”

Clean Space for Flexible Learners
Funded Dec 31, 2016Having a Roomba vacuum has dramatically improved the classroom. Students enter each day with clean floors, which pairs well with our shoes off classroom. The students are very eager to take their turn to turn the vacuum on each day. We've even named our vacuum "George". Students take pride and ownership in their classroom and keeping it clean. They know the Roomba can't help pick up large things like pencils and sheets of paper, so they are even more conscientious of helping to clean at the end of each day. I am so grateful for the support of our community of donors to keep our classroom a welcoming, clean place.”

Using the Past to Unlock the Future
Funded Oct 24, 2015My class is nearing the end of our journey through The Devil's Arithmetic. The students are captivated by the thought of time travel and exploring how the main character changes through this experience.
The students are devouring this novel. Several students have confessed that they finished the book ahead of us because they were so intrigued.
I feel that this book was a great companion to our study of the Holocaust and other human rights issues. The students have gained more insight into the Holocaust and the importance of courage and remembrance.
Thank you for allowing us to explore this thought-provoking, moving novel. I think this is an experience that will be with these students for the rest of their lives.”

Engaging Technology for Mathematicians
Funded Oct 6, 2015Thank you for your generous donations to our class project. My students have loved having the ability to easily access engaging websites and apps to further their understanding of math and reading concepts.
My students routinely ask to use the iPads. These devices have increased the engagement of even my most struggling students. Everyone wants to use the iPad which means that everyone participates.
Having new technology is always nice. However, having new and usable technology is even better. Thank you so much for helping to make this happen for my students.”

Kore Active WOBBLE Chairs for Active Learners
Funded Sep 28, 2015What a difference the wobble stools have made in my class! My "wiggle worms" can now wiggle without interfering with the learning and concentration of other students. Everyone is now more productive and able to focus.
My students, and even our principal, were excited to try out our new wobble stools. The class voted to use the stools on a rotating basis so everyone gets a turn throughout the week. Some students have decided that their need to get the wiggles out is not as great as other students' needs and will often "donate" their turn to another student. My sixth graders love having flexible seating options that allow them to focus throughout the day.
Thank you for making a difference in the education of my students!”

Funded Mar 23, 2015I can not begin to put into words how meaningful this book has been. My students loved reading Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. The themes in the book grabbed my students by the heart and kept them interested to the end.
My entire class read this book and analyzed character development, and theme. Students explored their own friendships and relationships with each other through the eyes of Melody Brooks, the main character. Our school counselor has been able to use the work my students did with this book to build on her anti-bullying curriculum.
This book has made a dramatic impact on each of my students. Several have read it two and three more times. Your generosity enabled a disjointed group of kids to come together around a single book and, with their varied reading abilities, to create community. I have worked with this high poverty population for a number of years and never have I seen one piece of literature so effectively bond a diverse group of students.”
