Since many of my students do not have access to books outside of school, I want to make sure that I have a wide variety of topics and genres for my students to choose from in my classroom. My current books are either outdated because they were donated from my older family members' home bookshelves or they don't challenge my higher readers. I also don't have many resources for my students to choose from when we research and write about famous African Americans during Black History Month. My students need positive role models in their lives and to know that they can do anything they put their mind to and make a difference, just like Rosa Parks or Nelson Mandela, which are just two of the amazing figures depicted in some of the books chosen for this project! The books that I chose for my students are of a large variety and are sure to grab the attention of even the most reluctant readers! These books will be used for students' personal growth and enjoyment during silent reading time, lunch, free time, or any time that my students feel drawn to open the pages of a new book they can't put down. I am excited to see the look on my students' faces when they see a wide array of books to choose from when they enter their classroom each morning! My hope for them is that they can read these books and allow themselves to take their minds on adventures and learn while having fun doing so!
