At our school, we believe in working together and helping each other. What better way to do that than by creating an activity that will include every grade level? Our theme for the year is Dr. Seuss' "Oh the Places You'll Go!" My second-grade classroom contains students with autism, who happen to be very creative and love helping others! In order to help build school moral and work on my students' goals such as social skills, reading skills, and motor skills, I thought of something we could do for our entire school based on our school theme. Every grade level will receive a book written by Dr. Seuss and an activity that is related to that book. The activity will also be related to state standards. To help the teachers, my own students will create an example of the activity for each of the teachers and we will present these examples and one book per grade level, that they can share and read as they create the activity in their classrooms. Some examples of the activities include giving the six-grade teacher a copy of the book, "The Butter Battle" along with an example and directions for how to make butter using a mason jar and heavy cream. In completing this activity, the six graders will be able to observe as the liquid cream turns into a solid butter, which directly correlates to their science standards in the unit on states of matter. My students will be reading each of the books and creating activities, so they will be working on many different skills with each new project! Please help my students build on all of these skills. If you help provide the books, I'll provide the crafts!
