Have you ever sat and tried to teach 24 first graders, fractions? In a whole group setting? Trust me, it's difficult! This year I am experimenting with guided math which is a wonderful opportunity that allows me to teach math in small groups, and help meet the needs of every student. While I am working with a small group, the other students need activities that engage and allow them a chance to work together. These centers would provide my students with a variety of engaging activities that will keep them learning and engaged while I meet with each and every student in my class. The games and activities would help me differentiate centers for my diverse population. I'm looking forward to the Learning Resource Number Board. This board is a wonderful way to explore the use of math language as students complete a puzzle of the numbers 1-120. I'm looking forward to students using language such as, "What number comes after 43? What number comes before 67?" Head Full of Numbers is sure to be a favorite among my class! I just know it! What I love about this game is how it can be played differently based on the level of the student. Student create number sentences based on their level! It can be a two number solution, three, addition, subtraction, there are so many possibilities! 4-way countdown sounds like a great way to promote addition and subtraction! I love how this is another center that provides students with an opportunity to choose a skill that THEY feel comfortable with. This game can be played by addition only, or addition and subtraction, and can be played by multiple level of learners at the same time. What a wonderful idea!
