This book will help my students, as well as my future students, to be engage and connect with the text. Students enjoy "seeing" characters that look like them. Many students fake read because it's hard for them to connect with the characters; or they are not interested in the content. Additionally, the social studies teacher and I will be collaborating on a social justice unit. Born a Crime is the ideal book to start with because it's entertaining as well as informing. Please help my students expand their knowledge beyond their community and to become more aware of events happening around them; and in other countries. This will greatly improve their awareness and the importance of social justice.
