As part of our gifted curriculum, students participate in a variety of art projects to explore social-emotional learning and coping skills, which are crucial for gifted learners. These activities allow students to explore topics such as their own feelings, strengths/weaknesses, positive self-talk, and stress management techniques. This particular project will help fund materials needed for our What's Your Symbol Project. A drying rack to house our mosaics while they dry, the mosaic tiles will be used to create abstract symbols for positive thinking, and a glue pump to more easily disperse glue for our mosaic project. What's Your Symbol focuses on selecting an abstract symbol that represents a positive thought or phrase that students will remember. Once students choose their phrase, they will find a symbol to represent that phrase, which they will then create a coaster or pot with mosaic tiles. Students will present their final products to their classmates and then discuss the symbolism and significance behind their selections. Finally, students will get to take their mosaic creations home as a reminder to think positively!
