Breathe Easy! Pothos Plants, Not Pathos, please.
Funded Feb 8, 2024Thank you so much for supporting our GreenSpace/Green-Growing-Wall project which is now alive and well in our school cafeteria. Our entire school community appreciates your donation of plants, which are thriving in planters, hanging on a designated wall in our common area cafeteria. All students, in grades PreK-8 have had an opportunity to observe the variety of plant growth happening on the wall. These plants have improved the aesthetics and atmosphere of this space by 110%! Not only do our students appreciate your donation, but so does the entire cafeteria staff, who work endlessly inside the cafeteria in order to provide nutritious and delicious food to our students. They too deserve a beautiful workspace.
Also, parents and staff are hugely impressed to see the plants growing inside our building. The greenery adds a new element of tranquility and calm to an otherwise rowdy environment.
When our students first saw the plants arrive in our classroom they couldn't believe that they would actually be involved in planting and nurturing them! Most of our city-kids had never really dug their hands into soil before that arrival day. Students were excited to see the roots of the plants. They learned to be tender when transplanting from growing pots into the planters. Students learned about the fragility of plant growth, as some of our plant arrivals "didn't make it" after a bit too long in boxes without sunshine.
And what is next? We now have 3 hydroponic gardens in a designated classroom.
Students are learning about cultivating food, flowers and plant life. For our green wall we keep a watering schedule. Students have also learned about plant food and nutrients necessary for successful plant growth. Most recently we have taken cuttings from the cafeteria plants to root in the hydroponic garden. If any of our plants in the cafeteria "don't make it", we are prepared with new growth for transplanting. The students plan to keep their green wall well sustained, as they learn about Sustainability, and practices for a brighter, greener world of the future.”

Sustainability Success! Our Great MakerSpace Paper Project
Funded Jan 14, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation of blenders, deckles and moulds, for our first-time-ever paper making project! The students in our Green Team were absolutely thrilled to be able to use recycled paper to make new paper. They never imagined this was even a possibility.
Using electric blenders was a first for our students, and so was the creation of hand-made paper. The excitement in the room was also electric.
The paper itself dried to perfection.
Our next steps will be to create announcements on the paper, to invite our school staff and students to our recycled material art show.
We look forward to sharing pictures of our creations.”

Funded Dec 12, 2011Thank you all so much for your fantastic contribution to our school. With your generous donations we were able to outfit our auditorium in a truly theatrical fashion. Our new auditorium curtain looks amazing! The students here had an assembly for Martin Luther King Day and all of our student body and faculty noticed the difference in the performing environment. Our cheer-leading and dance team performed on stage with pride and they received great applause (in front of the beautiful red curtain as it closed).
We are looking forward to many more student performances this year. We even expect to start a ball room dance program and have visits from visiting actors and actresses. We are so grateful that we can now host these events in a venue they deserve. Bravo to all of you!”

Color, Explore, and Learn Even More!
Funded Apr 5, 2011Thank you for your generous donation of paint, paper and magic markers. The students at our school, both young and old are simply in love with the painting process. We have been painting much more since the supplies arrived and students are mixing their own colors and discovering the wonders of working with color! In class we have studied many new artists and have had inspiration from the likes of Paul Klee to David Hockney. Our supplies will certainly last until the end of the year, and will start us off with a surplus of paint for next year. I anticipate many richly colorful projects ahead of us. Thank you again for your contribution to our art program. Our school would be less colorful without the evidence of your kindness.

Sketches of Spanish Harlem
Funded Mar 29, 2011We were thrilled to receive your generous donation of sketchbooks and other drawing materials for our school art program! The middle school has been hard at work developing their drawing skills and now they can pride themselves in owning a book which will document their efforts and development. Students have been painting in their books and coloring, as well as sketching personal interest pieces. I am truly amazed at how engaged the students are and how they are anxious to take their books outside of the classroom to continue practicing. Even as the hot weather is upon us students are still involved and focused on art. Amazing!
We couldn't have continued a serious art program without your help this year. Our resources were really depleted. Now, we can continue into the coming year, exploring and discovering creatively.
Thank you again, your generosity has bolstered the art program beyond measure!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Z”
