  • Laminate To Reduce Waste

    Funded May 3, 2023

One of the ways that we use technology in a preschool classroom is by utilizing an interactive smart board. We can have large group time practice of writing letters and numbers allowing for the children to give each other support and cheer. I utilize the internet to illustrate vocabulary words and explain them with short video clips. We watch videos about patterns and simple applied science that tie in directly with our lessons and activities. When the children are able to immerse themselves, they are better able to learn and remember concepts.

The most exciting thing about the new supplies for the students are the items that support relaxation and offer sensory support. They also really loved the new bright signs we were able to print and post in their center areas and to label their seat, table, cubby. Our nonverbal students have had the opportunity to express their needs and wants more with our laminated charts.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dunphy

  • Light Table Sensory Center for Special Education!

    Funded May 6, 2023

It is with a lump in my throat that I write to you to express my deepest gratitude. Not just for your selfless generosity but for the stark reminder that even when things seem dark and hopeless, there is light in the world. There are good people who care about our children and our future. I cannot thank you enough for being that person for the children in my classroom.

I was able to set up the light table after school. When the children arrived in the morning, they didn't notice it. Right before our center time, I led them to the light table to show them what it is and how it works so that they could also use it. It was a beautiful thing to see their faces light up the first time we turned on the light table and once again when they saw that it could change colors.

We've been able to use the light table in our classroom to learn about shadows, colors, and as well as for sensory activities. We don't have too many resources, but we have used our Magnatiles to build 2D and 3D shapes as well as small cities. The children have enjoyed using transparent color paddles to learn about how colors behave differently with paints than with light.

The next step is for our students to use the light table with a see-through sensory bin with water beads. This will be a very calming activity for the children who have sensory needs and I will also ask the children to choose from several topics (plants, animals, etc.) for us to have rotating small items in the bin for them to fish for and compare textures with different color light table backgrounds.

Thank you for opening this versatile avenue to hands on learning in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dunphy
